Those of you who are following the "Strategies to overcome the "almost finished" problem" thread will have picked up on my pledge to showcase 1 army a month in 2018. Well it is 17th May and I've showcased 2 armies - so here is Miss March!
Now I won't lie - I absolutely bloody love this army......all the indicators are good: I love this history of Seleukos (a chancer who far exceeded William the Conqueror in scope and achievement), the Successor and the diadocian wars, its got pike and elephants, it has scythed chariots and it kicks arse on the tabletop. If I could only play with one DBA army for the rest of my life this would be in contention!
The figures are Magister Militum and about half of this army was painted 20+ years ago for an intended WRG 7th edition army that never got finished. In the last 12 months I have added to it, rebased it and redone some of the paint jobs.
Now I love this army on the table top. With 4Pk rather than 6 the centre is held solid without the to much commitment in terms of units, the cavalry (is an elegant mix of LH, Can and Kn(Gen) and can to outflank units pinned by pike, 2 elephants are a pip drain but with impetuous pike under 3.0 you can afford it. Enough PS to control the bad going and a Scythed chariot to provide a free hit with almost no down-side.
First photo - the whole army in its normal battle array.
Second photo is a the infantry, solid phalangite units (again work to do in replacing the pike with wire spears) and 2 units of psloi.
Third photo is the Elephants. I love these models from Magister Militum.
