I just got my recent issue of The Slingshot. May-June, 2016. Lots of interesting stuff. Of particular interest to DBA players is Phil Barker's discussion of his Pharsalus game at the last SOA Battle Day. There must be something missing, not printed, as there is no mention of what rules he was using. I assume it was DBA 3 Big Battle. Also, no army list or other actual game information. Perhaps the missing text will come in the next issue.
In addition, a very nice review of Great Battles of History for DBA 3.0 by Pete Duckworth.

One slight glitch, there is actually one 12 element per side game reported in the Book.
Moreover, in the magazine is a self report by author of a new game, "Mortem et Gloriam" in which he argues it is the ancient wargame for the 21st century. Of interest to us, who like simple games (this is not) is that he wants to have an "easy access version that can bring people into the hobby (as Phil did with DBA for DBM)." When will people realize that people play DBA as an end to itself, and not as an intro to some more complicated game. This new game joins the many such attempts to improve on DBA, which is all I want for a game. Others look for complexity. This game as its own special color coded cards, unique dice, and even some sort of pre-game planning board. The price is never mentioned.
Included is a nice report of the DBA Northern Cup Themed Tournament. There is the list of players and armies, and scoring method, and some information about the format. I would have like to see a description of the actual format of the event as there seems to be some useful potential for events. There were 16 different armies, 8 Roman of various eras, and 8 enemies. So 8 pairings for 16 players in 5 rounds. But how matched up?
Much other stuff, not directly DBA related but fun reading. This magazine is well worth the price, and I need to re-up. Good timing given the pound to dollar ratio.
