Interesting to hear your views and I largely agree. Having strayed away from DBA 3-4 years ago (which lead to exploring a whole lot of other good gaming options, mind you), I wasn’t sure I’d come back to it. But reconnecting with Fanaticus in the last week has reminded me of how enjoyable DBA is.
If not already mentioned, I want to add the adaptability of the system to other periods is something I love (edit: yep. already covered). For me, though it's the core ancient-medieval game that I love. It was instrumental in getting me back into gaming some 20 years ago - largely because a mate packed two armies, flew down to visit and taught me in an hour, and left me with a set of rules. I was hooked. That’s a great game in my book.
Cromwell - remember me, Alan, Australia? Remember the DBA-RRR Edgehill campaign you developed? Loved that.
Great to be back among the Fanatici!

Sounds like a plausible outcome to me.

I absolutely love that there is a description of a little history of each army and how the list comes about for them, the references for, and how the authors got there.
I start reading up on a certain army, and then I feel like Alice going down the hole...

Definitely inspired me to purchase Duncan Head's "Army of the Macedonian and Punic Wars" that is referenced about a billion times in book 2! Great reading.
