"Armies of the Americas" is an upcoming theme for our local group. I always enjoy a good historical scenario and found this for the Battle of Otumba, AS 1520, available as a free download here, albeit in French. It pits IV/63 Aztecs against IV/19c Spanish & Tlaxcalan. It's easy enough to make sense of the deployment map, with a Road and pairs of Colline difficile (Difficult Hills) and Labour (Plough) features. The Spanish are sans l'Artillerie, per the scenario's only special rule, translated here with the help of Google Translate: "It is considered that the Artillery is already destroyed following the events of the Night of Sorrows and counts as loss in favor of Aztec player for the conditions of victory."I'm looking forward to giving the scenario a try. Eric Donaldson's splendid Conquistador 3Kn Gen element seems eager to have a go at it as well, even if he is down 1-nil already at the outset. Has anyone else here played this scenario? Or, maybe the scenario designer(s) is a regular on this forum?

I'm tempted to go on an extended whine about being "sandbagged" but instead I'll saddle Paul with the Spanish and allies and play my brand new unblooded Aztec army. He can't moan about his own scenario can he?

Won't know until we play this scenario 2-3 times, but Eric's (tongue-in-cheek) cries of being "sandbagged" would seem to have merit. Cortés not only starts out with only 11 elements, but also down 0-1 the score. Presumably, the designer(s) thought it necessary for play-balance.

In my version, I would give the general an extra +1 for having a great looking dog on his base:)
by the way, consider all those Hordes the Aztecs could have, that do not count for losses:(

We played this "Battle of Otumba" scenario twice last evening. ( IV/19a Spanish & Tlaxcalan vs. IV/63 Aztec) Here's a bird's eye view of the terrain and positions after the Spaniards' first bound. (Aztecs at top.) Each side won one game, so, obviously the play-balance is perfect! As mentioned in another thread, Sr Cortez was Destroyed in a Tie ( oh, no!) against the Aztec Gen as shown here. Cortez, however, would gain an equally spectacular revenge in the second game with this denouement of Mr. Montezuma, below. All figures painted by Eric Donaldson, Seattle.

Hey Paul - Where is the IV/19c list? And what figure is Cortez?

The Cortez figure (all the Spanish actually) are from the Khurasan Renaissance Spanish range. The army (IV/19(c)) is a 3.0 variant of the Tarascan,Toltec-Chichimec & Chinantec list. Basically a Spanish Colonial army with Tlaxcalan allies.
