Salutations, gentlefolk ! Those of you interested in the old HO scale figure sets - Airfix, Atlantic, etc - may wish to check the summer sale at www.toysoldierco.com/Yours, John (and maybe a Forum section for vendor reviews, sale notices, etc might be in order ?)

My Napoleonic Peninsular British and French armies are made up of Airfix figures. I aquired those in a sale off of the old Airfix Waterloo set. That gave me the corp armies. I have added to them using Irregular miniatures 20mm Napoleonic British Heavy Dragoons and French Lancer units and a rather nice personality figure of Duke of Wellington. 1/72 is about the biggest scale I can cope with. The sculpting of Zvezda figures is pretty hard to match, some of the Ceasar offerings coming a close second. Where the scale is let down is in the often questionable choice of posture and lack of sensible release schedules. Just imagine what your battlefield could look like if, say, Zvezda released a range of 10mm Ancients .

There are also some nice metal figures that mix well with the plastics such as Tumbling Dice and Newline.

Hmmm... be nice to see a 1/72 plastics board. I'm a big fan and about 98% of my DBA armies are in this medium and scale. Yes, they do have their problems, biggest bugbears for me are incomplete ranges and badly represented historical periods.

Yes, they do have their problems, biggest bugbears for me are incomplete ranges and badly represented historical periods. Good idea. Strelets seem to plan reasonable coverage of ranges but then drop elements of them at a whim! Hatt with their, for instance, 12th/13thc. Spanish range is a good attempt at coverage. Red Box have done well with their WoR and Ottoman offerings. Does anyone have any particular favourites?

I use plastics for DBR, etc too, I've been aiming to get my armies up to 300 pts in DBR from the twelve BBR RRR elements. So far only managed Muscovites and Samurai. One of these days I'll get these Ottomans up to 300:

Also really like 20mm plastics (it comes from growing up in the 60's and buying Airfix for 50 cents at Woolworths).
Would consider offering some events at Cons for this scale if we had some interest.

I switched over/back to 20mm years ago from 15mm. Like many who started in the late 60’s I raised armies using Arfix and other plastic figures (amazing what you can convert using the Robin Hood figures). These days I have shifted my campaigns to the Musket and Pike period and can find just about any army if you look carefully. The biggest problem with the plastic 20’s is scale. Like many of their metal counterparts, plastic 20mm figures run from 21mm to 27mm. I normally check the “Plastic Soldier Review” website for scales just to make sure what I am buying will fit in.
