It took me a while, but last week I finished "Mughal Warfare". Informative but hard goiong. Over the weekend I read "Scottish Battles" by John Sadler - a concise narrative of Socts Military History from the Roman Era to the early 19th Century. Sadler gives details and commentary on a number of battles (with a certain Scots bias), including a few victories that don't usually appear in the standard histories. I quite enjoyed this one. For a change of pace I then went on to start "Star Destroyers: Big Ships Blowing Things Up" a series of Science Fiction short stories focussing on battleships. Cheers David, is there enough detail to develop battle scenarios for a Scottish themed tournament? Cheers,

Cheers, Unfortunately Greg - not enough ancient/medieval battles and few of them have maps - anyone can get a map and OOB for Stirling Bridge, Falkirk and Bannockburn but they are all the same era. Missing is detail for Carham, Otterburn and Neville's Cross. I'll bring the book up for you at Briscon Cheers

I finished off 'Star Destroyers' in very short order, some excellent stories in there.
I am now a few chapters into 'The Agincourt War' by Alfred H. Burne - a reprint of a book written in the 50s by a former Royal Artillery Lt Colonel - with all the quaint jingoism you would expect from a British Military man from that era.
He opens with a declaration that the Black Prince certainly didn't massacre anyone at Limonges and proceeds to critique DuGesclin as being the lucky commander to be on the spot when the pendulum swung back in favour of the French (suggesting that anyone would have done at that point).
Still - it is a pleasant read.

I finished 'The Agincourt War' over lunch today I found it an easy read, but the jingoism continued - The English soldiers always displayed the pluck and drive that distinguishes them from all other nations and the French were invariably hesitant, duplicitous and just plain lucky when they did win. Something of a hoot to read in this day and age Cheers

Anthony Riches Batavian trilogy is done.
Reading Hugh Kennedy’s ‘The Great Arab Conquests’ and have finished the first chapter. Fascinating and useful material for the next venture.

Finished reading The Great Arab Conquests by H. Kennedy. Of all the Muslim campaigns, those in Transoxiana were the toughest.
As a follow-up, I have returned to The Armies of the Caliphs, by the same author.

Gone Old Skool with ‘Battles of the Bible’ by Herzog and Gichon (1978). Took a while to get into it, but starting to flow now 👍
