Just finished Stephen and Matilda by Jim Bradbury and found it to be a good, solid read. Now getting stuck into Simon Elliott’s Romans at War book, loaned to me by my father this week…😁 P I love the Anarchy period Paul. So much going on! Cheers, Yeh, it was frickin carnage, although Bradbury has an interesting take on how much ‘anarchy’ was actually going on in this period… P

Finished reading "When Christ and his Saints Slept".
I want to thank gregorius for mentioning this book. It was a great read, and I am going to miss Ranulf!
And yes, the writer does give a nod to Cadfael, with that little mention of a monk in Shrewsbury who has an affinity with healing herbs. Loved it!
I will certainly look at getting more of Penman's writings.
And back to this book... She mentions tons of battles and skirmishes and they are just begging to be brought to the tabletop!

Finally tracked down a copy (via interlibrary loan) of *Life and Society in the Hittite World* by Trevor Bryce. Not too much direct wargaming material in there, but his *Kingdom of the Hittites* covers the military/historical side in a bit more detail, and is one of the books that first got me interested in the period.

Glad that you enjoyed it Nangwaya. She's also done a series of medieval detective stories with the protagonist in the employ of Eleanor of Aquitaine. They are much shorter in length and mke a nice diversion. Cheers,

I have the DVD and it is an excellent portrayal of the political manoeuvring of the time. I think the father, Philip the Good, demonstrated a better grasp of military matters. His victory at Gavere was text book work. dbagora.blogspot.com/2021/01/threetests-used-standard-dba3-lists-for.html

Your blog and link to the battle of Gavere is excellent with some fine close fought games.

Anyone care to recommend a good book on Philip II of Macedon, with or without that needy kid? Two references are given at the Wiki Philip II of Macedon page: Hammond, N.G.L. (1994). Philip of Macedon and Cawkwell, George (1978). Philip II of Macedon. Amazon.UK list two other titles.

Went to the thrift store yesterday and picked up "The Ordnance Survey - Complete Guide to the Battlefields of Britain" by David Smurthwaite.
