I hope my recommendation lives up to expectations- no pressure 😱!! P Hi Paul, I've just finished reading The Plantagenants and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The period from the Anarchy through to the death of John the Only was well familiar to me. However, the period from the ascension of Henry III through to the deposition of Richard II was for me relatively unexplored territory. Thanks once again for your recommendation. Cheers, You’re very welcome and glad you enjoyed it. Would strongly recommend his follow-up, ‘The Hollow Crown’... P

During my week off I finished "A Bond Undone" and found it quite enjoyable. Lots of twists and turns as the great Martial Masters of Sung China posture and prepare for a final confrontation.
After that I picked up the latest in Paul Doherty's 'Hugh Corbett' series - "Death's Dark Valley" is one of Doherty's better stories and I found it gripping enough that I finished it in three long sessions.
I have now just started "Richard III: Brother, Protector, King" by Chris Skidmore
Cheers

After finishing a historical publication, The Plantagenants, I've returned to fiction. I'm about 1/4 way through Cornwell's latest in his Anglo-Saxon series, Sword of Kings. This work is up to Cornwell's usual standard, a rollicking adventure indeed.
Cheers,

Finished "Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee" and then polished off "Sharpe's Fortress". I grow weary of Obadiah Hakeswill. Bring on the battles, sieges and class conflict in the British Army but oh, that sergeant...

Yeah. I've read a few other Sharpe novels, never in chronological sequence. I assume when finally reading Sharpe's Afterlife, Sharpe will still be dogged by the deranged sergeant.

I finished "Richard III: Brother, Protector, King" earlier this week and found it a good, balanced account and an easy read.
I am powering through - "The War of the Three Gods" by Peter Crawford - an excellent narrative account of the Persian/Byzantine/Arab wars
Cheers

Recently finished War of the Three Gods and was quite pleased. Interestingly, I discovered this book when it turned up on recommendation list on Librarything.
There was a review that was not overly enthusiastic about the book, but it included the lines
"Unless you are interested in descriptions of a large number of the battles of the period …"
To which I exclaimed "Hell Yeah!!!" and promptly put it on my Book Depository wishlist.
It dropped off Book Depository (after first jumping in price to $A80) but then I saw it for GBP 10 at Sword and Scabbard books. Admittedly once postage was taken into account (and the sad state of the Oz dollar) it cost as much as the pre price jump Book Depository price.
I am now about a quarter of the way through and loving it

I've just finished Sword of Kings and as usual Cornwell didn't disappoint. I'm just about to begin R.W. Peake's fifth installment of his what if Caesar saga.
Cheers,

Currently reading "The Medieval Soldier in the War of the Roses" by Andrew Boardman.
Very interesting insight into the recruitment, training and types of soldier during those troubled times.

A huge variety of books on the Wars of the Roses alongside some sources, must be dissertation time Finding lots to argue against though whenever a Ricardian gives his opinion on Thomas Stanley
