I think Generals/Kings/Potentates should have personalities.
Trickster: can make opponent re-roll PIP die. No CF plus in Combat. Calculating: always gets a base of 4 PIPs (sometimes I think 3 is better), PIP die 1=-1; 3-5 no effect; 6= +1. No CF plus in Combat. Heroic: +2 CF in Close Combat; if in front edge contact with enemy at start of Bound army counts as having no General (everything costs +1 PIP).
Location, Location, Location: if you really want a Gen that moves, better to use a representative figure that must be in contact with an element or in the Camp. If in Camp +1 PIP (only if CP?). May move up to 5BW and make multiple moves as LH but must end in contact with element/camp (costs 1PIP - 2PIPs? - to move). Gives +1 CF to element/camp if in contact. You can limit types of elements that the Gen would join based on Army (French King can only join Knights for instance or "Foot Knights"). Can't leave an element that is in front edge contact with enemy.
"They couldn't hit an elephant at this range boys" last words of General John Sedgewick: any 1-6 result v. Gen element kills Gen (only) even if friendly element survives.
Random Note: side support was not meant to be abstract but meant to represent real world shieldwalls and retinue support for archers. We have too much abstraction already.

Tom, That tends to remove the "4Ax should have side support" argument, which is fair. I'm still down with the retreating 1BW though. Chris
