We are now about three months away from the Midlands Open tournament in Bakewell, Derbyshire on Saturday 16 June. I have e-mailed all the usual suspects asking for an indication of whether they are likely to be coming to help me with planning. If you have not had an e-mail and are interested in attending, please PM me and i will send you further details.
Kind regards,
Simon

It has just been pointed out to me that the BHGS calendar is saying that the Bakewell 16 June tournament has been rescheduled to 20 October. This is NOT the case so just to clarify:
There will be two Bakewell DBA tournaments as follows:
Saturday 16 June Bakewell – Midland Open.
Saturday 20 October Bakewell – October DBAfest.
I will also be running a new leg of the HOTT Good Bad and Ugly International Tournament on Saturday 22 September in Bakewell.
Let me know if you want to come to the June event and haven't done so yet.
Regards
Simon

I hope anyone who is a member of the Society of Ancients will be willing to have the results of their games against other SoA members submitted for inclusion in the 2018 SoA Championship.

That would be a great turn-out, if you get anywhere near to all those chaps coming along! What is the record for a DBA tournament in this country?

The biggest Bakewell one was 24 - last year I think. This year the venue are letting me have the main auditorium for the same price as the usual room so we should be OK up to about 50!!

Simon,
Just to confirm. Sorry if this is written elsewhere.
Is the tournament fully open (all books and armies, no limits on allies etc.)? No limits on dismounting? Rules exactly as written?
Thanks,
Scott

Simon, Just to confirm. Sorry if this is written elsewhere. Is the tournament fully open (all books and armies, no limits on allies etc.)? No limits on dismounting? Rules exactly as written? Thanks, Scott Hi Scott, No - it has not yet been written down elsewhere yet and I will be sending full details to all the confirmed participants. In brief, all armies and books will be allowed with allies as per the usual rules. I will, however, be applying my usual (and hotly disputed!) ban on dismounting during or between games and requiring that the 12 elements you select before the first game are what you will be playing with for the rest of the tournament. You may choose to dismount elements before the first game but then they stay dismounted for the all the remaining games. I am delighted to say that Tin Soldier UK ( http://tinsoldieruk.com) are kindly providing the winner's prize of a DBA army. In addition to the tournament winner's prize based simply on highest tournament score, there will also be a handicapped prize for the player who achieves the highest score when their overall tournament score is divided by the total basic combat factors of the elements in their army. Eg if you have an army for some reason with 12 blades, for the handicapped prize, you will divide your tournament prize by 12 x (5 + 3) = 96. If you have an army of 12 Warband, you will divide your score by 12 X (3+2) = 60. Simon
