I hope to be there. I will check the plans of my Coventry chums. does "must retain the same options throughout the tournament" mean that troops cannot dismount? Do you want me to return with the Qaramita? I've allowed dismounting elements in the past although I realise many are uneasy with the concept. Personally, I've no qualms with dismounting elements in Version 3 - they are not so common or as easy to dismount as they were in version 2.
(However, I don't intend to bring an army with dismounting elements this year.)

I have no problem with dismounters (= rules as written), and also have no plans to bring dismountables.
What do we do on arrival, Alan? Is there a plan to expedite our arrival, as hinted at?

Re dismounting, suppose I was using an Early Crusader army and decided that, in the first game, I wanted to dismount some of my knights and field them as blades. Would I be allowed to field all the knights as mounted in subsequent games or do they have to remain as blades throughout the competition?

Not my call, Steve, but the Early Crusader knights aren’t a dismountable 3Kn/4Bd or 3Kn//4Bd type as such. I see they're listed as (3Kn or 4Bd), but that’s a bit of a different animal...... Martin

Ah, sorry my mistake! I was thinking of the 3Kn/4Bd combination, e.g. with Medieval Spanish & Portuguese list IV/68.

No need to apologise....the lists are FAR from easy to interpret, with all the variations of "and/or, /, //, all one or all t'other". Early Spartans sometimes seems to be the easiest way to go (the 12 x Sp version......no thinkin required, but a lot of luck, maybe ). See you Saturday, Steve. Martin

The dismounting question seems to have been answered by others anyway. I shall send a list of names of those who have indicated they will attend to the show coordinator on Friday and he will do his best to sort you out. That probably ought to be real names rather than Fanaticus avatars!

I don't think the dismounting question has been answered - chiefly because I misread the Early Crusader list so ended up asking the wrong question. I know that if you dismount an element at the start or part way through a game then that element can't remount during the game. What happens, though, if you are playing in a one-day competition which comprises a number of games? In other words, if you have an army which has knights that can dismount as blades (or anything else for that matter) and you decide to dismount some or all of them for the first game, do you have to stick with that for the rest of the competition or can you field them as mounted in subsequent games.
By the way, for the show co-ordinator - my name is Steve Aspinall.

So if you have an element which can dismount either at the start of the game or during it and you opt to dismount in the first game, you still have the option of fielding it as mounted in subsequent rounds. As the organiser, Alan has the final word, but, as I say, that's the usual practice. Best of luck. Denis

Sadly I am not now able to attend A real shame as I wanted to try out the Polynesian army that I picked up as my prize last year. Such a pity not being able to defend the only international title I ever achieved...
