Looking towards the near future, David Shepps expressed interest in running three events at Historicon 2018.
Mitch Harbach and I would be happy to fill in the rest of the time slots as we would love to have DBA 3.0 available to play all convention long considering we are driving 14 hours ONE WAY.
My times are suggestions so that we do not have any overlaps those of us who want to can play DBA all convention long. It would also allow 3 events each day.
David Shepps expressed to me he wanted to be the "morning" guy, but I wanted to put this out there so we can get an idea of what we are looking for as far as a schedule and have many more events than last year.
I also wanted to make Tom Thomas and Bob Beattie and or any other to see if they wanted to run any events before Mitch and I step in and put an event in every session.
Suggested sessions and times below:
Wednesday 7PM-11PM Wimp Wars DBA 3.0 tournament. (all eligible armies must have a minimum of six LH or Ps elements - any combination) GM: Tony Aguilar
Thursday 9AM-1PM Chariot Wars (any book 1 army with at least 1 chariot, including scythed) GM: David Shepps
Thursday 2PM-6PM
Thursday 7PM-11PM
Friday 9AM-1PM Armies and Enemies of Rome and Byzantium GM: David Shepps
Friday 2PM-6PM
Friday 7PM-11PM
Saturday 9AM-1PM Armies and Enemies of the Crusades (including Baltic Crusades and the Iberia Reconquista) GM: David Shepps
Saturday 2PM-6PM
Saturday 7PM-11PM NICT?

I discussed running a duplicate event with 7 games and 14 players. That could fill up the Thursday afternoon and Thursday night spots. Tony, email me off list for further discussion.

I told David that I could do two events, a big battle scenario as one, or two tournaments. I have been putting together a very nice 28mm Sub-Roman collection with Romans, Arthur, Picts, Vortigen, Irish, and Saxons. 4-5 players on a side. I see Mike wants to do a duplicate event. Mike, more details. I had offered to run one of my classic duplicate tournaments, with 2 historical battles, where players use all four armies each in turn. I would also like to do a Matched Pairs Tournament. 2018 represents my 50th anniversary of organized wargaming, using published rule, not just my home made ones. Also attending my first war-game convention, in 1968. And my 50 years friendship with Dick Bryant. So the two of us were planning to have an anniversary giant battle of Column Line and Square Friday or Saturday night. With a cake

Tony kudos to you and Mitch for stepping up ensuring that DBA doesn't become one of the ghosts of Historicon past.
Cheers,

Tony,
I'm willing to run an event (Thursday, 2-6pm?). Theme: Great Generals (Armies commanded by Generals of high historical note, e.g., those shown in the Ancient and Medieval Era sections of History.net's "100 Greatest Generals" list (http://www.historynet.com/100-greatest-generals.htm)).

Mike Guth, Bob Beattie and Jim Wood: I like all of your suggestions. I will see if we can get Tom Thomas to chime in.
Keep in mind I'm not the DBA coordinator for Historicon, nor do I wish to be as I have enough doing this for the two Florida conventions. I just wanted to start a dialogue that we can all benefit from to ensure we have DBA events at Historicon (and they don't overlap so as to benefit all.)

Wimp wars? Would that be an event where you bring the worst possible army, but other people play it for you, and you get points for every battle your army loses?

I would welcome more game masters. I generally run three events: NICT, 25mm tournament and then the all night (Sat) Iron Throne campaign game.
Its about my limit.
I assume we want to do the NICT on Saturday afternoon? (Lets earlier tournaments be qualifiers.) We can also have a not the NICT event running at same time for non-qualifiers (but we have rarely in recent years had enough for two overlapping events).
I can do the 25mm event as a fill in at any time and nothing runs on Sat PM except Iron Throne.

1. I'd love to make the NICT a double slot event; and make it a double elimination tournament. Play until you lose two games. I would also change NICT to NCT. Invite everyone. Yeah NCAA basketball tournament, boo Bowl Game system.
2. My 'battles of Byzantium' could fit up to 14 players doing 7 games each. That would take two slots leaving an hour for lunch. It scales down to 5 games for 10 players, but that is still almost two slots. I would not be offended if people did NOT want to devote a full day to such an event. I will do it if Tony and Tom think it will sell.
3. I have built 3 nasty armies for 25mm! I'm love to play that.
4. Midnight Madness??? How late are the gendarmes willing to leave the building open?
5. 4 straight days-I'm willing to play nothing but DBA at Historicon. Maybe I'll win something!
Best wishes,
Mike

Mr. Thomas, is that iron throne game a DBA game or one of your own rules?

I don’t know how it’s been done recently, but when I ran the NICT, it was like the soccer world cup. We had four player pools, with the winners going to a semi final and then a final. Everybody gets three games, and then the finalists and semifinalists get one or two more. I like that better than single or double elimination. If you do it on Saturday night, you can include winners at this historicon. So that goes five rounds, 7 to 12 .
Tony, I will do my historical duplicate battles on Saturday afternoon. I provide all the armies and terrain. 2-6
Midnight madness: in the past the Lampeter room was open all night, So no problem for a late night event. Typically midnight madness started at 11 :-) it was single elimination, 16 players yields 4 rounds, So over at about 2:30 AM. Usually done on Friday night.
If there were not enough players for a pure 25mm (maybe call it 60mm wide base tournament) we could do a matched pairs event where players who want to use 25mm (60mm wide) elements can bring them as a matched pair. Mike could bring two of his "nasty" armies as his pair. I can bring my Arthur vs Saxon armies in 28mm.

I seems like this is the best time to do the NICT also as that way it is a big finale to Historicon.
