This could be very easy - when considering combat outcome for LH v Bw, are the LH destroyed both from close combat and shooting when doubled? The comma after ‘.....artillery shooting(,) bows and psiloi .....’ threw me thinking that this was ‘artillery shooting, (bows and psiloi) in close combat...’
My Early Hungarians kept on getting mauled by various bow fire at the weekend at PAWs, and had not taken that into the pre event tactical thinking.
Maybe I should have read the rules more accurately.

Maybe I should have read the rules more accurately. Hi Peter I don't have the rules to hand, but from memory LH are destroyed-if-doubled by bows in shooting OR close combat. If I recall correctly, a look at the introductory troop type descriptions mentions that LH were "very vulnerable to foot bows, who outshot them", or a similar comment. We often ignore the introductory troop descriptions, or forget it's there, but there a quite a few clues on the rules author's expectation of combat outcomes hidden in there. Martin Good to see you Saturday. A fun day out, as always 🙂!

If doubled " Light Horse Destroyed if in bad going, or by any mounted, Artillery shooting, Bows or Psiloi. If not, flee. "
So we have the light horse destroyed by artillery that shoots at them, (but not in close combat), and bows or Psiloi in any circumstance.

While we're talking Light Horse, remind me again, please, the troop-types that a LH player is ill-advised to contact frontally with LH rear-support? i.e., the list of "To Flee is to Die" opponents. (I don't have Purple readily at hand.) Thanks in advance.

Paul - recollect the heavy foot ie pikes, spears and blades this happens with LH, so not advised to attack in double ranks unless some added tactical value, ie flank or rear contact on them.

If beaten Light Horse Flee from Scythed Chariots, from Artillery shooting, or if in bad going. If not, recoil.
If doubled See above. Just about anything that doesn't destroy them makes them flee.

Hello, bob: Right. And (as paulhannah said) if they (LH) have to flee but did attack with rear support (2nd rank), the front element turns 180° and is unable to interpenetrate the rear element. Therefore the front element is eliminated! Cheers, Ronald.

Indeed Light Horse are Destroyed if Doubled by Bow even from Shooting - this makes them horribly vunerable.
I'm actually in favor of letting them Flee when Doubled from Shooting (though not Close Combat).

I'm actually in favor of letting them Flee when Doubled from Shooting... LH do Flee when doubled from shooting...so long as the shooters are in a WWg. --Kind of a subtle, little wrinkle that's easy to forget (for me, at least).
