Home at last!
Many thanks to Pete for an excellent theme and smoothly run event.
I had not played since the last English Open, I had forgotten what a fun game DBA can be, thanks all. Six close-ish games. My Scots Isles and Highl's won three and drew one in which they were well on top. Two of the victories were against me using Welsh, where I allowed the terrain to funnel my start and ultimately expose double ranked pike flanks!
I enjoy the game, but not the time pressure to get a result. The more one puts ones opponent in a difficult spot, the more frustrating it is waiting for them to decide what to do, whereas with no time pressure, it is comfort time to plan the next move....and I do not have a poker face....sorry guys, hope to be more chilled post half-term.
See many of you at the Norhern soon.

A victim of the wargamer's equivalent of the "commentator's curse", having been tipped as the likely winner by the organiser at the start of the day. If it happens again this year I'll blame it on Mark! (see his comment above). Colin Shall I keep quiet this year about Colin being, again, the favourite to win... P.

Yahoo being unhelpful, but a second album of pics now added to the Yahoo site. (took three or four attempts, and the creation of a new album.....). Even now a few pics are missing.

See many of you at the Norhern soon. Ok I'll hold my hands up to the drawn game, but think part of the problem was the sequence of 1's and 2's on Pip dice for both of us at the start. I do think however that the scoring has an influence on the game. For example, in the last move I was 3 - 1 down and the only move I could have made was to throw a single Knight in against a supported blade. 3-2 down on the dice and a bad throw on my part meant I'd lose and get 0 points. As it stood I got 1 point for a losing draw, so where's the incentive to risk it? If it was the Northern Cup where you get a point for losing, nothing for a draw and a point for every element killed, I'd have played it differently and gone for it. Having said that, in the past I have played against people who've played for a draw even when it wasn't in their interests to do so. That is somewhat irritating.

3 wins Colin
The dice can't have been that bad, so presume I'm off the hook?

During the afternoon I changed to using my own string of dice (like several other players) and that gave me a fairer share of the luck. No hook to be let off!
Well done on your strong finishing position at Newark. Perhaps we might get a game in Bakewell?
Colin
