After quickly devouring 'Medieval Polish Armies' over the weekend I started on 'A Choir of Crows' by Candace Robb. This is the latest in her Owen Archer series that I worked my way through last century - she has only recently produced two more after a 10 year hiatus. I am more than 1/3 of the way through and it is shaping up well.

I suspect the answer may be that it makes no practical difference. You still end up with two elements of Ps in a column. (Of course, allowing them to recoil through would also produce this, but.......) …we didn’t write the rules. … No we didn't write them but we tried to fight them

Over the weekend I also put the first dabs of paint on my Khurusan Ottoman army. (Flesh/Wood/Metal)
In the process I discovered that I had accidentally mixed up some Nubian archers (from the Khurusan NKE range) with Azab archers (the Nubian Hairdo is slightly more exaggerated than on other ranges).
In my defence your honour 1) The light was dim in the garage while I was prepping the figures 2) I had not ordered any Azab Archers - you need 4 and the pack you get from Khurusan has 12 3) I had ordered the pack of Azabs with javelins and so could fill out the Ialyars and the Azabs from one pack (the lists do not specify the armament of the Azabs).
All up the Azabs with javelin look much cooler so I am more than happy to have them playing both roles. But it was a lucky save.

A very productive couple of days with the paints - I've finished
3xLH for the Trapezuntine Byzantine - another army brought up to Purple Compliance 1xLH for the Numidians - this army is also complete 2x3Bw for the Northern Sung Three Generals (1x3Bd, 1x3Bw, 1x4Bw) for the Zagros Highlanders 1xEl for the Macedonian Early Successor (Olympias)
I also finished basing a cheap and nasty 'Hillbilly Hoplite' army - II/5l Black Sea Greeks from figures I acquired from a deceased estate. They are primarily Peter Liang figures with a smattering of others.

The flow of entries has dropped away but we have 15 plus me So 16 players barring any game day attrition - and still room for more - I've sent out another reminder to the usual suspects via all the channels. Runners and Riders will come soon, once I get a few more army choices in Cheers

I powered through "The Emperor's Exile" over the weekend, not a bad story - a trace of modern issues (pandemic) alongside the usual Roman Legion action that Scarrow does so well. Macro moves out of the picture early on in the book (but we can expect him back in the next novel) and the character of the enemy leaders (Sardinian bandits) is developed but not concluded at the end.
After that I dived into 'Armies of the Baltic Independence Wars 1918-20' an Osprey Elite publication - a good read.
This morning I started 'A Brief History of Mutiny' by Richard Woodman.

A long weekend away allowed me to finish the last of Low's Border Reiver series in short order. 'Shake Loose The Boder' was a fine conclusion to the series and I enjoyed them all
I am now about 5 chapters in to the latest from Simon Scarrow "The Emperor's Exile"

I finished off "Burning the Water" this morning. An excellent climactic finish.
Naturally I picked up the next one in the series straight away. I am a few pages in to "Shake Loose The Border" now.

The depictions of Anglo Irish mounted in Tim Newarks books on the Celts (Celtic Warriors - published by Blandford and Ancient Celts published by Concord, both illustrated by Angus McBride) show the Anglo Irish mounted looking more 'Native' than English.
I plan to build a new Medieval Irish army and plan to use the Khurusan Renaissance Irish cavalry. If you use the ones without Morion helmets they look okay.

The Ospreyfest ended yesterday morning as I finally finished 'The Army of Phyrrus of Epirus'.
I am now about 2/3 through "Burning The Water" by Robert Low - the second in his Border Reiver series - a good read even if the main character seems to be mainly stumbling into trouble and getting captured at every turn.
