Thanks for the replies so far...any further 'confirmed' appreciated.
Current estimate is 16-22 players, but Life, the Universe and Everything means that's still a guess.....however, 12+ means you won't be playing any opponent more than once, and you'll use your own pair three times and your opponents' for the other three games. (Less than 12 would have meant a Swiss pairing at the end, with assymetric use of armies a possibility....) Looking forward to usual eclectic mix of army pairings....fun n a half, every time.
Martin S
(Roster yet to be finalised, but initial publication sez 'yes, Mr Smiff, you can go to the Alton Matched Pairs', which is a bonus, as without me it ain't running.)

What's the maximum number you think you can accommodate, Martin? And do late arrivals for whom there isn't enough space have to play the games with their own armies in the car park?

It’d start getting tight on space at 24, for sure, Denis. So far I have 20 inc myself*, plus poss three more PAWS persons, and a maybe from Coventry. M * though I prefer not to play and just concentrate on the admin. and yes, late arrivals play, not in the carpark, but in the toilets.....

Forgot to mention..... If anyone wants to do ‘Bring and Buy’, we’ll provide a bit of space in the kitchen area (no charge, of course).

Martin,
I suppose with such large numbers, any attempt to use a larger board would be awkward? As I recall the 2" x 2" boards only just fit on the tables without overlapping the rear edges and two games side by side on the tables is only just comfortable.

Scott Indeed....it would probably prove very restrictive, Scott. If the forecast numbers show up it’ll be a tight enough squeeze with just the 2’ boards. Martin

Yes, 2' x 2' boards would be fine. I suppose 2"x 2" boards might be a bit crowded! Scott

That probably depends on whether it's another snow bound Alton tournament, like a few years ago

Remember it well....that was a March tournament. Hopefully by early April Jack Frost will have b*ggered off....❄️❄️☃️☃️😵....just scraped an inch of white stuff off the drive.

About ten days to go....quick reminder:-
Please arrive promptly before 10 a.m., to allow a sharpish start and max time per game (usually wrapped by 16:30).
On a similar note, packed lunch is a good plan, so we can reduce the lunch break, again to maximise gaming time.
It's also a good idea to provide a sheet with the breakdown of both armies, their terrain type and aggressions listed, for your opponent to choose between. Otherwise you'll have to fill in one of the sheets I provide upon arrival.
Entry fee is currently £5, or £3 if in full time education. (May have to consider a rise for next year....the hall ain't cheap)
Hasta la pasta
