My latest army built is the Early Swiss IV/41.
The origins of this army are about 20 years ago when I was playing a DBA 1.0 mediaeval campaign and wanted a load of halberdiers. So I bought a number of armoured and unarmoured halberdiers from a company that was then TTG (Table Top Games) now Alternative Armies (Medus Mediaeval Range.) I painted about 3 units of 4 Bd before moving onto other projects and these figures got lost in my unpainted lead mountain.
Fast Forward 15-20 years and I am looking at DBA 3,0 Army lists and realise that those TTG halberdiers I bought were actually Swiss...and I have enough for a DBA 3.0 Army. Then I apply the immutable laws of wargaming....if 3Bd are good under DBA3.0 then 6Bd must be better and so 9 of them must be awesome! So my interest is sparked I look at painting....loads of Cantonal flags and the early days of what will eventually become Landsknechts. What isn't there to like?
So here it is...the full Army:

Now some detail:
The Ps Cross Bow and LH Cross Bow
2 views of the 6bd with the contingents from (from left to right) Solothrun, Berne and Lucerne. Berne is bases as 2 x 3Bd so I can use them as Later Swiss in a future army when I've painted some 4Pk.

Final photos:
ontingents from (from left to right) Schwyz, Uri (General - 2 flags) and Zug.
Finally contingents from (from left to right) Zurich, Obwalden and Glarus.
Painting this army was really fun as the figures were so colourful. The flags came from a really nice site I found on Google - but can only find them on pinterest now....but beware the Zurich flag is wrong.
The Army only took 2 weeks to paint and what's not to like with all those flags? Next project is to paint up loads of Swiss 4Pk to convert this into a Later Swiss army.
I've only played them once vs Tectonics and so far they are 1-0. The 6Bd eat any infantry in any terrain they can engage....but beware being flanked by knights.
Hope you like.

Very nice indeed.....and I'd be wary if meeting them in battle, too. Excellent work. M

I'm currently working on a Late Swiss army, specifically the c list, League of Constance. I'll also do enough elements so that I can morph it into the b list. I'm using Legio Heroica figures.
Cheers,

I forgot to ask,did you do a camp for the army?

No camp yet. I've got a few generic mediaeval tents I use but haven't got round to doing something specifically Swiss. Any suggestions?

The tents will do admirably, I planned to do some Leitzen walls with a fallen tree blocking the road that a camp guard element can lurk behind.q
My late Swiss have a pair off basic scruffy tents with a camp guard element all kneeling to pray with a priest...just like the Burgundians mocked before they got a good kicking.lol

Haadrada - I just remembered a fantastic DBA Swiss camp I saw while Googleing once. I expect it belongs to someone who follows this forum.
It was basically a boy with an apple on his head, standing in front of a tree, with his Cross Bow dad taking aim and a bunch of pissed up Swiss looking on.
Classic! I think that has got to be worth doing at some point in the future. Plagiarism being the sincerest form of flattery!

I think it may have been in the eye candy of the old dba site.

Very nice. I acquired some free figures a couple of weeks ago, and used them to put together an early Swiss list (as well as the Late Swiss 'a' list). I haven't had chance to try them out in a game of DBA yet though; I suspect that, against historical opponents, they will either win big or die like dogs

Eight of the Blades have the flag of one of the eight original cantons of the Old Swiss Confederacy. The element without the flag is, of course, the general More HERE

Very nice - both armies.
One of these days that Mirilton Swiss army I picked up back in the day is going to have to get in the queue.
