All - following an article in Slingshot that developed a Dark Ages British Campaign system, I have been collating armies for late 800s and 900s. Typically I have used Essex and these cover Vikings, Saxons and Pre-Feudal Scots etc pretty well. I found the Bauda range whish had a specific Norse Irish III/46 army base and other figures around that, and they look good and ordered (if a bit expensive?). However, on trying to find a Strathclyde army, the Essex one was a mix of Roman / Saxon / Welsh / Viking etc and did not look quite right.
Has anyone had experience of building a Strathclyde 15mm army for the 800s / 900s or there abouts, and recommendation for figure sources.
thanks
Peter

Peter I no longer have the Strathclyde army, but I used the 15mm OG Slav and Rus medium infantry; typical round shield, tunic, breeches and some with helmet. These are armed with javelin for the most part and a lesser number with sword or axe. The cavalry are from the same listings as these had a mix of helmeted figures and good portions were bare headed which are ideal for light horse.

Timurilank - thank you for this and I will have a look to see what is in the OG lists.
I have also been interested in your terrain ideas and have ordered a few pieces from Busch to have a look at their fields etc.

I also found that Splintered Light do a range in their Romano British set. This maps accross the DBA3.0 list.
Never used these figures. Any views?

Strathclyde was a Brythonic kingdom, early Welsh figures may be appropriate (if such things exist) or at least a scattering of them. Likely they looked pretty much like their Northumbrian, Celtic and Pictish contemporaries. Basically your guess is as good as anybody else's.

I have Splintered Light Anglo-Saxons and Vikings nearing the top of the lead mountain. Lovely figures that I'm sure will paint up well.

Pretty much sums it up- I used Outpost www.outpostwargameservices.co.uk/search 'Ranges' Romano British, plus galleries. And Donnington dark ages Goths from the Originals range shop.ancient-modern.co.uk/goths-84-c.aspPlus some Feudal Castings (now statesside, Sergeant Major Miniatures, availability uncertain) Generic roundshield types, minimal armour, occasional helmet . Did you do this army phippsy? If so which figures did you use?
I'm considering doing the Feudal Scots and wondered what figures would best represent the Strathclyde allies...the essex early Welsh with Saxon Mounted Command look favourite so far.

To quote Mark Twain, "amazing returns of conjecture for trifiling investments of fact". In other words, there's not much surviving evidence about what Strathclyde people looked like, differences between them and other denizens of the 9th and 10th centuries.
Myself, am painting up Ancient Brits predominently in tans/golds/reds and Picts/Caledonians predominantly in greay and blues - took colors from current 'national' flags. also some Galwegians, Atecotti, etc with touch of greens, and some generic 'Shieldwall Sp', with matched 'shield patterns' on 2 or 4 elements.
Pictures vhen finished, Real Soon Now
In lead pile are Highlanders, 'twill wear the red and black of NJIT, and Vikings to join the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark. Someday will post report on Battle of Martin Luther King Boulevard ;-) (street seperating the two campuses)
(Apologies for monolog. Rainy afternoon, procrastinating...)

Following up last evening’s session of dark age battles, I searched this thread for further recommendations suitable for Strathclyde. Most recommend generic figures without helm, but armed with spear and round shield.
The medium infantry offered by Baueda and Forged in Battle in their Carolingian range seemed the best candidates and their medium cavalry are dressed similarly.
