Very good point by Sheffmark. There is too much "dead time." Is it possible that the camera can be turned off while the players are thinking about what they're going to do. One rolls 4 pips and then takes about five minutes to decide what to do.
Is it possible to play out a game to create a script. Then film The game without all the dead time. In the filming, The players do notactually roll the dice they just put down on the table the dice that they roll during the game. They then place the troops were they did. If there are any comments to be made those can be done. There are some very useful comments about what alternatives are; those can be made.
If the photographer forgets his tripod, then don't even bother to shoot the scene, maybe others can take it, \ but I felt like I was getting vertigo watching the camera go up and down :-)
In that last presentation, there was a better attention to language. at least some attempt was made to translate the local jargon into DBA speak. Somebody said sock is what we call a Threat zone. There are still too many strange references, such as when an element is defeated it's called a push instead of a recoil. This is confusing as people might think it's a pushback. But also, when there is a tie, if sometimes called a push, and other times a lock. The term follow up is used instead of pursuit. If these are intended for newcomers, I think they end up a little confused.

I'm 24 and I have been wargaming since I was 14. I think the videos are awesome and maybe a quicker edit may be done in a future video. Young people I would say do enjoy instant action, but the helpfulness of these videos as games in action is great. Additionally, videos are easy to skip around. Also, you can add "Time Stamps" directly below the video. Like, 0:00 - 8:00 - Terrain Setup, and then cut it into a few parts for people to easily navigate the video. All you have to do is write the time in the description and YouTube does the rest for you.
Great Vids!

I will note that my 10 year old nephew was not that keen on watching them - said he'd rather be playing than watching.
Although he did like Tony's palisaded camp - spent the last couple of evenings making one. Now he wants to get even more ambitious do something more elaborate after I showed him a few more...

We used to use the lumber pile out back until we dug a fort/hogan behind the lot in an unused at the time unused portion of a farmer's field. Took a backhoe and about an hour to demolish it when he decided to cultivate the field up to the fence...

Hi Musashi,
Very many thanks for these. I'm just getting back into DBA - having played DBA 1.0 "back in the day" and am building up some DBA 3.0 armies and just starting tom p[lay DBA 3.0 battles with my son. So having no club to ground me these videas have been excellent in providing a played through example to pick up the rule nuances and cut through some of the Barkerese to get me out of the DBA 1.0 mind set.
I enjoyed the Patrician Roman vs. Early Ostrogoths video. One question - in the video you mention and use Don Harding's (I think that was the name) deployment markers / guides and indicate that these will be made available. Is there a published link to them as they look very useful and I'd like to print out a set for my own use.
I really enjoyed the Teutonics vs. Southern Dynasties Chinese video - but only because I own a Teutonic Army and so can relate to its use. One question with regards the rules during this game - I seem to remember that there was an incidence when a Teutonic "spitz" wedge (6Kn) recoil a Sung Caytaphract unit (4Kn) - which assumes that the 6Kn unit gets treated as a special kind on 3Kn. Is this a common rule interpretation. If so what about HCh vs 4Kn?
Early Poles Vs Medieval German - Nice to see Artillery in action.
A couple of observations - I like the close up of the troops - particularly Tony's excellent painting. I do like the interventions when you ask for clarifications this prompts a discussion about aspects of the rules and would ask the players to discuss their thinking and options more. One request - can you post some videos covering the classical period - this is only because the armies I am currently building are Alexandrian / Hellenistic, Indian , Greek (Early/Later Hoplites), Carthaginian, Ploybian Roman and Skythian. It would be good to see these in action so I can see what I'm doing wrong.
Once again many thanks.

The link to Don Harting's Deployment guides is listed in the comments section of all the videos. Here it is below: groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/DBA/files/Don%20Harting%27s%20DBA%203.0%20Setup%20Guides/The 4Kn and 6Kn was mentioned earlier in another another thread and we apparently mistakenly treated the 6Kn as if it was a 3Kn. In the future there is a plan to play a series of match ups with some of the Classical Armies you mention.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the link to Don Harting's Deployment guides. They'll be printed, laminated and in use by the weekend!
Looking forward to seeing videos involving Classical Armies. Having said that I was basing up my Teutonic Knights and Sergeants in 6Kn "spitz" wedges last night and have found that I've got enough painted figures to construct a passable Mediaeval German army as well. Next stop will be to paint the Mongols that have propped up my unpainted pile for the last 20+ years.

Please make sure you verify that they print out the correct size. Don mentioned that it could vary depending on the printer you use.

Tony - I'll look out for that. Currently I'm on my work PC and am firewalled out from accessing them. I'll have to wait until I return from this business trip.

I really like the battle reports you have done! Thank you very much!
Are these setup sheets that you use in the games in the reports to be found somewhere online? I would love to try them out.
