Hi Everyone. I've started filming DBA games to help spread the love for DBA 3.0 far and wide ;-) I went up to Gainesville, Florida to film Tony Aguilar and Mitch and Luke Harbach playing some DBA 3.0 games. The first one up is Patrician Roman vs. Early Ostrogoths. It's kinda a mix of how to play DBA 3.0 and just fun to watch a game unfold. I'll put the second one up shortly! I will be doing a long series of these so feel free to subscribe to my youtube channel if you'd like to see them. ;-) We had a lot of fun with them and will continue to improve the angles and what not. Feel free to comment with any suggestions how to improve. We already have a number of fun additional things in store for fans of DBA 3.0! www.mynameismusashi.com

Please do..I will be doing a lot of these and the point is to show that DBA 3.0 is awesome so it's an outreach sort of thing for new players, but us grizzled veterans are really enjoying making them so its' full steam ahead for me (us).
Thanks for spreading the love! Musashi

I thought the camera work and the general technical aspect was excellent. I would like to see the dice thrown on the screen. Perhaps there could be a little rehearsal so that it doesn't take so long to deploy the terrain. my one complaint: I am a newcomer to the game, I'm trying to learn how to play, I have read the rules. So what is all the strange language that is not in the book: sock, lock, push, fallback, follow up?
players should avoid their local jargon and use words from the text.

Full Barkerese incoming next time! oh wait..... "Barkerese" is either a humorous or derogatory term used to describe Phil Barker's terse style of writing. It's not a reference to his use of words. All of the words he uses in his text all well-defined. I thought the purpose of these excellent videos was to help newcomers understand the rules, or bring in some newcomers to the game.
If the participants in the videos do not explain what they are doing in terms that these newcomers can understand then the purpose of the videos is unfulfilled. If the purpose is for long time players to watch other folks enjoy the game, then it doesn't really matter what they say because people will understand them.
Therefore, all I suggest is that the players in the videos use the words from the rules. It seems simple enough to me that the participants can say "threat zone" as easily as they can say zone of control. That term was never in any of the rules, it was just something made up by players (From the board gaming community ) ] that Phil actually didn't like, which is why he put in an explicit term - threat zone.
Isn't it just as easy to say the elements "tied " instead of saying it was a "push" or they "locked."
The expression "shut the door" was originally intended to apply to the action of an element going from overlap to flank attack. It again is not in the rules. Now it seems to have come to mean, In the local jargon, Any flank attack. What is a newcomer supposed to think when he hears a player say that he is "shutting the door." Isn't it just is easy to say that the element is making a flank attack?
"Quick kill" is another one of those jargon expressions that newcomers will not understand. Again isn't it simple to just say, "destroyed if beaten"?
Perhaps my attention to words is seen as Too picky. My only point is that newcomers have enough trouble understanding the "Barkerese without also trying to understand the local jargon that's being applied.
Please keep up the very interesting and educational videos, just make them a little more understandable to the newbies. Thanks

Forgot about these this past evening - was planning to get my nephew and watch a couple.
Without yet having done so, really like the idea of doing these.

Having watched this and a couple of others I have a couple of thoughts.
Haven't played more than a couple of dozen games myself (away from the club and other players), but something I picked up from some other players was turning down the pip dice as each pip was expended - having the die in the foreground as this was done would be of assistance to viewers as discussion occurred during the moves.
Agree with bob that more adherence to the rulebook's terminology would be good for the sake of newbies or nonplayers.
Also in the match between the Teutonics and Southern Dynasty, the Southern Dynasty is based on the 2.2 list - might be a good idea to make that clear. Don't know that a new player is going to watch the video and fall in love with that list, but just to make sure people know what is going on.

I like the idea.
My only comment is I wonder how many people who come to this wondering what this DBA is all about, would be willing to sit through around an hour's video where things are gone through step by step?
Maybe that's ok for the more committed, but could you do a 'highlights' presentation (of about 10/15 minutes) where the basics are included and the essence of the game is brought out, then if people were interested they could look at the fuller feature?
Maybe I'm wrong (and this is probably a sweeping generalisation) but it seems to me that young people want more exciting instant action, e.g. video games, so I'm not sure this would necessarily appeal to them?
Anyway well done for posting, it's a great idea.
