Sorry for the late call. I've moved the event earlier in the annual calendar due to popular demand. I trust this is still sufficient warning. Do let me know if you can make it. The theme is Frontiers - make of it what you wil. Non-themed armies are fine. This year a twist - in your last 2 games you fight with your opponents army & terrain. Please choose set home terrain in advance for all battles to accommodate this. Even better bring a themed, pre-set board. Venue: CV7 8HX Keresley Community Library Bennetts Road Keresley End Coventry. NB it’s a long way to the north of Coventry - handy for the M6 though. There are no handy pubs or shops so you may wish to bring refreshments. NB the library is an alcohol free zone. Full details here

Hi Pete
Having missed the recent Staines HotT competition through ill health (congratulations on your win with another fine looking army) I’m really pleased to see this note and very much hope to attend. Martin sent me an email yesterday saying it was on and it brought a little joy into my slow recovery. Hopefully we will have a car full from this area, possibly with a new player!

Pete, Sounds like a fun day, and the theme (via the link you posted) was one I thought would give plenty of scope for imaginitive armies. Current schedule has me off work that day, but with an 'exam' very soon after, so strong chance I'll be a non-participant (unless the notoriously fickle roster-gods deem otherwise). Good luck with it. Colin seems keen to go, and I've nudged Mark S. .
Cheers
Martin

Hello Pete
Just to say I will not be going as Scott is not, apart from the fact that he is on call, it is also HOTT.

Thanks to Pete and the Scimitars crowd for a fun day of Hott at the Keresley venue. Congrats to - Mark Skelton, winning 'Best Theme Army' with his 'Alien' force (lovely hive stronghold). Colin O'Shea, in third place with his early Abyssinians. Martin Golay, in second, with Carry On up the Khyber......and the winner Pete D. (!!), with his Little Big Horn Sioux army.
We played two games using our own army, then two using our opponents', which is a twist. Also, the same items of terrain had to be used for all games as defender.
I took a 'Year 2525, Space Station 360' force, with hero general, aerial hero on lev bike, flyer on similar, a mass of garrison Detours Regiment troopers (shooters) and the garrison mascots, 'Smiffy' and 'Marshall' (beasts)
Game 1- Pete's warriors crossed the Little Big Horn to confront my array. On the left a detachment of Station 360 shooters advanced through a flanking wood, but the main action took place in the middle. Sitting Bull saw off my aerial hero, who had rather hoped to catch him out for an 'early bath', while Crazy Horse successfully charged some shooters and the beasts. 12-8 loss.
Game 2- we invaded Neil's Spanish Conquistadors. The aerial hero and flyer swung left, killed an arquebusier element and then attacked Cortes himself, hoping for a rapid win. Cortes was made of sterner stuff, killed off my aerial hero and then also brought down the adjacent flyer. As the garrison mascots fell to small arms fire, my hero general rushed an exposed enemy artillery element, and then fell to roundshot. Another loss, 14-2.
Now we swapped about. Game 3- I attacked my Station 360 troopers using John Saunders' alien spacecraft force. Success along the line, apart from the destruction of my hero general, gave me a 12-4G victory.
Game 4- saw me generalling James Yates' 7th Cavalry. The Station 360 aerial hero plagued my left flank, while charging Custer (hero) and the mounted 7th (knights) fell to enemy shooting and counter attacks. Both Gatling batteries were knocked out by the Space Station commander and friends, to give the Space Station 360 defenders their only win of the day....and that under my opponent's control, with just one element of the Detours troopers falling. Loss, 14-2.
A fun day, despite the slaughter. In retrospect some of my losses were due to poor judgement, some just poor luck, so I was more than happy with the result.....8th out of 10, but still worth every minute.
Thanks Pete and Co.

Full results are : hereOh dear - rather bad form to win the event you organise... Thanks for all for talking part - especially those of you with a long journey. I trust you all arrived safe well & in a timely fashion. A really fun day with some lovely armies. Great to see Martin Golay's Carry On army again. Mark won the Best Themed army award by a landslide of the popular vote. I've added my to a new album over in Yahoo photos. Pleas add if you have any.

Cheers Martin.
Loved your report Martin. How did you guys find the format? Did you enjoy facing your own armies in the second half?

Cheers Martin. Loved your report Martin. How did you guys find the format? Did you enjoy facing your own armies in the second half? Twas fun, and a nice twist. As at Tarrington, it might prevent you looking for the 'super-army', I guess, though this isn't really an issue in Hott. Funny to see your own troops, with all their known strengths and weaknesses, across the board, and also to try to remember what the elements in your borrowed army are representing. Bit of a memory test. Liked it, though I lost a lot (!!). M photos will follow when time permits.

Glad you enjoyed the format - though clearly not the result!
I think there are super armies.
The classic IMHO is Hero General Hero Paladin 3/6 Blade 3/6 Shooters
Hard to beat with something other than a similar army.

Interesting analysis.....would also need someone running the army who knew how to use it (!!)....not me!
Extra photo's now added to Yahoo. Hopefully some here later, or at the weekend.
