The Sung, now having no threat from the encroaching Nan Chao forces, attack Annamese held Xianyang and besiege it. The city holds
The Yuan boldly attack Nan Chao. Battle of Meng She is a resounding triumph for Nan Chao who isolate pockets of the Yuan army and systematically wipe them out.
Mongols attack Yuan territory – they besiege Kaifeng which keeps them out for the season.
Summer Korea takes advantage of Nan Chao focussing on the west and falls upon Fuzhou. A siege ensues but the city holds out.
Japan in concert with Korea attacks the other Chinese coastal enclave of Nan Chao. Battle of Guangzhou is a hard fought affair. Victory eventually goes to Nan Chao but they suffer casualties.

The Sung forces negotiate a surrender of Xianyang giving them control of the city.

Interesting progress so far, but in what state are the armies to continue?😊 Well - after three years of fighting, with the top ups each year based on territory held, most of the armies are in good nick
In fact only the Sung are below full strength at the end of 1262 - the Sung were wiped out at the end of 1260 but recovered 5 elements that year, got 3 back the following year and lost 2 but gained 3 in 1262
As for the others - the Yuan lost 5 at the battle of Meng She but had territory to recover - and Nan Chao were lost 5 across 3 battles but had it all returned.
The question remains - can the Sung hold on for one more year and get close to full again or will the Nan Chao roll over them?
Cheers

1263 Spring – two more countries added to the mix Kingdom of the Khmer – Dark Blue – III/23a Khmer – ANGKOR, Panduranga, Wat Phu Kingdom of Burma – White – III/9b Burmese – PAGAN, Pegu, Ava Nan Chao invades the Sung Empire. The battle of Xianyang is a close run affair, with the Sung artillery scoring some early success before Nan Chao forces came over the hills to fall on the Sung right flank. The heroic Sung prevail when their reserves charge home but suffer losses that they can ill afford.
The Khmer attack Burma and lay siege to Pegu.
The Yuan Empire moves to revenge itself after the previous year’s humiliation at the hands of Nan Chao. This time the Nan Chao army is not able to defend its territory. Meng She falls to the invaders.
Summer Japan invaders Nan Chao territory, landing at Fuzhou. The city refuses to yield and a siege ensues.
The Khmer capture Pegu.
In an effort to knock Nan Chao out of contention the Yuan follow up the capture of Meng-she with an attack on the Nan Chao capital. The battle of Dali is a resounding victory for Nan Chao who take advantage of local knowledge and greater mobility. They do suffer minor losses.
This defeat is sufficient to allow the Koreans to revolt against the Yuan and cease to be vassals.
The Mongols take advantage of the weakened state of the Sung army and attack. The battle of Xianyang is hard fought as the Mongols throw themselves time and time again at a Sung fort, eventually taking it and then breaking through the shrunken Sung line.
Korea joins in the attack on Nan Chao, assisted by Annam. The battle of Guangzhou is a slow affair as the small but effective Nan Chao army fought more numerous Koreans to a standstill in the forests. Nan Chao finally broke through the Korean line and drove off the invasion.
Autumn Japanese finally breach the walls of Fuzhou and capture the city.
Khmer offensive into Burma continues with an assault on the Burmese capital Pagan. This is repulsed with significant Khmer casualties.
Yuan suddenly turn on their Mongolian allies and try to recover Ningxia. The city refuses to surrender.
Mongols attack Nan Chao but the battle of Chonqing is a stalemate as the Mongolian horsemen refuse to follow the defenders into the forests and steep hills.
At the end of 1263 the prestige table is Nan Chao - 31.9 Mongolia - 15.0 Yuan Empire - 14.7 Japan - 13.8 Sung Empire - 12.7 Korea - 5.4 Annam - 4.0 Burma - 3.0 Khmer - 0.0

Note that I have edited the post above to put in the last events of 1263
1264 Spring
The Khmer once again attack the Burmese capital. The battle of Pagan is a convincing victory for the Burmese as their Elephant corps wipes out the Khmer elephants and artillery.
Burma pursues the Khmer to the gates of Pegu, and lay siege to the town as the Khmer fall back to their home territory.
Mongolia marches on Yuan territory and lays siege to Shangdu.
Korea swoops upon Anson and recaptures the city from the Yuan in a surprise assault.
Japan attacks Korea. The battle of Anson is a close fought struggle that sees the Koreans win through superior firepower from a strong defensive postion. The Japanese suffer more losses on the return journey due to storms.
The Sung attempt to recover Xianyang from the Mongols while they are occupied. The city is besieged but holds out.
Annam invades Nan Chao. The battle of Chongqing involves Nan Chao falling back to defensive positions but they are beaten when their camp is overrun and they lose elements for Vietnamese crossbows shooting from the woods.
In turn Nan Chao attacks Yuan territory and recovers Meng-she from the small Yuan garrison there.
Summer The Burmese siege of Pegu continues through the summer and concludes with the city surrendering and returning to the Burmese fold.
Around Shangdu the Mongols finally force their way into the city and take over, putting the Yuan administration to the sword.
The Sung siege of Xianyang continues but the Chinese forces are unable to re-capture their territory.
Annam turns its attention to Xianyang and attacks the city, the Sung besiegers fall back in their wake. Xianyang’s garrison throws back this latest assault with the same grim determination.
Autumn Burma invades Annam and strikes at Tra Kieu. The city falls after a brief but bloody assault.
The Mongol offensive into the Yuan empire continues with an attack on Kaifeng. The city holds back the invaders.
Despite further assaults the Annamese fail to capture Xianyang.
At the end of 1264 the prestige table is Nan Chao – 31.9 Mongolia – 22.0 Yuan Empire – 17.7 Korea – 14.6 Burma – 14.4 Japan – 13.8 Sung Empire 12.7 Annam – 7.4 Khmer – 0.0

So we had an extended delay with our campaign - last month's session was bumped when the room was double booked and the other booking was a paying customer - we can't argue with that I have updated the post above to bring the 5th campaign year (1264) to a close. We managed to get through until the end of summer 1265 1265 Spring Japan invades Korea, the Koreans are sent aid by Mongolia. Battle of Anson is a bloody affair with victory going to the defenders. The Mongolian contingent bears the brunt of the fighting and does most of the work to assure victory. The Sung move to recapture Fuzhuo while the Japanese are recovering from the loss at Anson. The city surrenders. Annam strikes back at Burma with an attack on Tra Kieu. They successfully recapture the city. Nan Chao swoops down on Mongolian held Xianyang and takes the city by storm. This gives the Nan Chao contiguous territory once again. Summer Japan once again throws itself at Korea. The battle of Pusan is another narrow victory for the Koreans. The Japanese suffer substantial losses but withdraw in good order. Annam follows up the recapture of Tra Kieu with an invasion of Burma. The battle of Pegu is a narrow victory for the Burmese, but both sides suffer substantial losses. Nan Chao turns its attention to Annam, and attacks Chongqing. The garrison throws back the assaults. The Khmer invade Burma with an attack on Pegu. The Burmese fall back before the attackers and the city surrenders without a fight. Having reorganised at Ava the Burmese return to Pegu. The Khmer fall back and let the Burmese besiege the city. It holds out.

Today's DBA Campaign session was a bit light on for players. We opted to just round out the current year.
Autumn Japan returns to the Korean peninsula, fanatically determined to gain a foothold on the mainland. The second battle of Pusan is an overwhelming victory for the outnumbered Samurai as they lure the Korean general into a trap and cut him down.
Nan Chao continues the siege of Chonqing. The city eventually submits and Nan Chao has finally cleared the homeland of invaders.
The Khmer march to the relief of Pegu. The Burmese fall back in response leaving Pegu in Khmer hands.
Burma switches its attention to Nan Chao and moves to attack Chongqing. However the invasion force is stopped by avalanches in the mountain passes and returns home battered but without striking a blow.
Korea launches an attempt to recapture Pusan. The main Japanese army retreats but the garrison holds back the attackers.
At the end of 1265 the prestige table is Nan Chao – 37.9 Mongolia – 28.6 Yuan Empire – 20.7 Japan – 18.6 Korea – 16.3 Burma – 16.2 Sung Empire – 12.7 Annam – 7.4 Khmer – 3.0

Today's campaign session was a little bit light on - only 4 players present so a fair bit of Programmed leader action. We managed to get a full year completed and this session saw Nan Chao empire humbled and a resurgent Sung.
1266 Spring Burma attacks Khmer territory. The Khmer beat back the Burmese at the Battle of Pegu.
Mongolia swoops down on Korea and lay siege to Anson. The city holds.
The Sung Empire attacks Nan Chao attempting to recover its territory. They besiege Xianyang but the garrison holds then off.

Summer The Khmer mount a counteroffensive in to Burma. Ava is besieged but refuses to surrender.
The Mongols succeed in breaching the walls of Anson, taking the city and putting the garrison to the sword.
Japan attacks the Khmer, while they are occupied around Ava. Panduranga is blockaded but holds the attackers back.
The Sung continue their campaign to regain their old territory and attack Nan Chao held Guangzhou. The battle of Guangzhou is an overwhelming victory for the Sung as the Nan Chao forces are cut down by intense missile fire.
Annam targets Nan Chao. They descend upon Chongqing and besiege the city. The citizens refuse to surrender.
Autumn The Khmer sweep over the walls of Ava and capture the city.
The sleeping Yuan giant awakes and attacks Mongolian held Ningxia. They crash through the walls and take the city.
The Mongols continue deeper into Korea, besieging the Capital Kaegyong. They remnant Korean army man the walls and throw the invaders back.
The Japanese siege of Panduranga concludes with the city surrendering to the Samurai invaders.
The Sung turn their attention towards Annam and strike the southern coast. The Annamese are soundly defeated at the battle of Tra Kieu giving the Sung a foothold in Annam.
At the end of 1266 the prestige table is Nan Chao – 37.9 Mongolia – 32.6 Sung Empire – 27.0 Yuan Empire – 24.7 Japan – 23.4 Korea – 16.3 Burma – 16.2 Annam – 7.4 Khmer – 6.7

We had our final session of "South China Warning Post" yesterday and the turnout was quite good.
1267 Spring Khmer continue their offensive into Burma – the capital Pagan is besieged with the battered remnants of the Burmese army inside. The Burmese defenders beat back the assaults.
The Yuan attack Mongol territory attempting to recapture one of their cities. Battle of Shangdu is a tightly contested affair which sees the Mongols drive off the Yuan invaders.
Korea launches an offensive against the Japanese, attacking Pusan. They are let into the city by agents within and are soon back in control.
Japan continues to press against the Khmer and attacks Angkor. The city puts up a stiff resistance and so the Samurai settle in for a blockade.
Summer Nan Chao marches into Annam. Cua Hoi is taken after brief resistance.
The Khmer march back from Pagan to Wat Phu to relive Angkor, but the city falls before they can complete the march. The Khmer are now vassals of the Japanese.
Korea moves on the Mongols attacking Anson. The city is besieged after refusing to surrender.
The Sung attack Nan Chao. Battle of Meng She is a victory for Nan Chao but most of the fighting is conducted by the Yuan allied contingent.
Autumn The Khmer return to Burma and once again besiege Pagan. The city continues to hold out.
Korea’s siege of Anson continues but the city holds out.
At the end of the campaign with additional prestige awards (3 pts for each city directly controlled and 2 pts for each city controlled by a vassal)
The final prestige table is Mongolia 54.6 Nan Chao 52.9 Japan 48.4 Sung Empire 45.0 Yuan Empire 39.1 Khmer 22.7 Korea 22.3 Burma 19.2 Annam 10.4
Stay tuned for next years campaign - which will feature the rise of the Arab Conquest
