Thank you all for travelling. It was fun to run and without the pressure of playing at the same time. I will consider leader board displays, although not everyone will wish it publicised....

3rd 11 points Scott Russell (Early Crusader IV/7 10 points)
4th 9 points Oli Curant (Attila's Huns II/80a 3 points)

Thanks again to Martin for organising this tournament and the rest of the players for a fun time, well worth the trip down from Sheffield.
I'd also particularly like to thank my die, without whom none of this would have been possible, as most of my opponents will testify.
In terms of knowing or not knowing the current leader board I must admit I quite liked the uncertainty. Going into the last games people don't know where they are so presumably continue to play their best and go for the win. If people know what result they need there may be a temptation to change your style of play for the last game. E.g if someone just needs a draw and plays for it, they then deny their opponent the chance of a win.
Also this could lead to a situation of someone being able to influence the overall result if they wanted to, so I for one would vote to keep it.
Finally if anyone can explain how you post pics up here, I'll try and put some up.
Thanks

Hi Mark - try the add attachments button at the top right of a new message. Simon That's how I do it- you have to select 'Reply' from top right hand side, rather than 'Quick Reply' on the top left. Then top right it says 'Add Attachments' or similar. only lets one add three pics per post, and the size of each pic's file can occasionally be restrictive. Cheers Martin S

Thanks Martin for another excellent days gaming. Huge fun and a really challenging format.
Thanks also to everyone who played. A lovely selection of armies and lots of fun.
Both me and my army in 8th position it must mean something...

A great selection of armies indeed. My choice for the most outlandish army is Skythian with Rhodian ally. A combination I thought would never be seen on a gaming board. Kudos to Mark Skeleton.
Cheers,

Cheers, ...and the Rhodians are littoral as were several other armies. I played with the Skythian/Rhodian mix against my own Norse Irish in the first game โ we were both littoral and we both landed on the beach. I wonder how players got on with the Picts with their two allies. That must have been a challenge, particularly against some of the heavy weight armies. Colin

One of the appeals of this tournament is that you are obliged to use armies and combinations you would never normally dream of using. It does give free rein to some players creative/devious instincts (thanks Pete!). I had the Picts against Mark Skelton using the Anglo-Danes, (with Welsh as their only allies). The PIP drain was a definite issue, especially with the Scots Irish LCh /3Ax mix, which don't naturally fight as a pair. When I next get the opportunity, I will probably separate the allies from the main army group as an incentive to give them a specific task and keep them in a group. I actually tried this with the Old Saxons, which I put on one wing, but they got ensnared by the TZ of the Pictish BUA (city) and never really got away. For a single ally the extra choice may well be worth the PIP drain, for two allies, probably not. Scott

The opening stages of the Condotta v Mongols Attila manages to dispatch the two pike needed before Alexandra jumped the Warband from behind! Think this is what you call a 'stalemate'

I had a most enjoyable day.
I made the early call to go for the car-sponge buildings for my hamlet, the paper ones having warped on drying (see earlier posts in this thread). Unfortunately they do not appear in the photo of the battle against Colin as they had been razed to the ground by Norse Irish revelry by the time the fighting started.
There were few hordes this year, but I got to fight them in five of my six games (for and against my Crusaders, against the Anglo-Danes twice and with them once), hence the "Slayer" title.
I also notice half of the armies being Dark Ages/Early Feudal, an era which I feel has markedly improved in DBA 3.0 compared to 2.2. Slightly odd to see these armies bunched together in the bottom half of the table. Personally I brought Crusaders having put the effort into painting four 7Hd elements to make them 3.0 compatible and wanting to do something to make the effort worthwhile.
I think Martin put a lot of unseen effort into making sure that the armies were matched against enemies of reasonable equivalent strength. Certainly all of my games went pretty much to the wire, including one which went into extra time at 4-4 before finishing 6-4. All adds to the slayer points of course!

Cheers, ....and that was 9 x LH inc. general for the Skythoi, and 3 x Spears for the Rhodians. Challenging indeed - They kindly gave me one of my two wins of the day, so no complaints here!!! My LH were hidden most of the game, dodging enemy Bw/Cb, but did manage a lucky couple of kills vs Crusader kniggits. SheffMark - thanks for the extra pics . Agree with scott and Mr Hittite, the two x ally army was a tough one to use. Martin

Scott asked if I had any pics of his spongiform housing estate, Spongebob Towers, but I only have these aerial shots taken during a Skythian v Crusader game. Not close up, more "from a Cessna 150", perhaps (though a C150 would have scared a few Skyths away, I guess.....๐). Click to enlarge, as they say...... Martin
