These two camps were constructed using the ubiquitous cocktail stick. Sticks were cut in 15mm lengths with a further 5mm trimmed off each stick. Alternating short and long pieces these were evenly lined up to reach a length of 80mm.
Strips of paper were cut to two different widths, 5mm and 10mm. Spreading glue over the 5mm strip this was carefully laid on the bottom half of the stakes. Let dry.
The second strip (10mm) was scored so bending this would create and “L” shaped length. Glue this section to the length of stacks so the front and back are held in place and with the bottom of the “L” form serving as a base. A CD case or pocket book will keep these pieces straight as it dries.
The base is a standard floor tile cut to 1BW x 3BW. Cut the front and side sections to a preferred length allowing for an entrance way and glue in place.
Using Milliput, I created an embankment further securing the stakes in place. (Avoid using the self-hardening clay as the base will not remain flat).
The thread was added as a finishing touch; this was held in place with white glue. Paint and flock to taste. {1} www.legioix.org/index.php?page=56;print

Nice piece of modelling, and if you put them back to back you could use them as a 'Fort' BUA, perhaps (?).
Always like the soil colour you use. What paint is it, please (make, shade)?

I plan a middle section measuring 2BW x 3BW to complete the ring of embankment and stakes. The three pieces would indeed make a "fort" (4BW x 3BW).
The earth colour is Citadel's Angrellan Earth (Technical) diluted to a 1:5 ratio. Very little brush strokes are needed as the paint spreads nicely.
I dry brush the earth with Citadel Ceramite White (Base) to pick out stones and "dust" the ground.
This has become a standard ground colour for all my collection.

Many thanks. Will you post a pic when it's done? M

Very impressive work, Robert. Looks as if they took considerable time & effort to construct. Then again, as your skills in this area far exceed my own, maybe this project didn't take you very long. Again, very nicely done.
You made two...is that so you could offer one to your opponent, or (I'm guessing) so you could keep one and sell the other?

I will do that. It should not take long as I have some practice with this.

Building it did not take that much time. However, thinking how best to construct it did. (+/- 2 weeks).
The barbarian wagon laager consists of two separate camps. Joined together with a third section they create a large 3BW x 3BW piece. (Scroll to the bottom) fanaticus.boards.net/thread/415/barbarian-wagon-laager
The marching camp follows the same format.
The planned battle of Magnesia 190 BC (coming soon), the second camp is for the Pergamene command.

Feeling energized. I had a great dance workout this week and an even better programme is on the card for next week, such that I decided to make a start on the insert piece. Everything needed was cut, trimmed and glued and now the Milliput rampart will need to cure overnight.
Tomorrow I can bind the stakes and undercoat the piece before I travel to Amsterdam. I think by Monday I should have photos posted here of the completed piece.
With the extra Milliput I made 5 draco standards for the early Byzantines which finally arrived this afternoon.
Life is good.

I did think about purchasing something similar from Baueda, but the measurements did not quite fit my design. However, looking at the Hellenistic marching camp, I just may have to buy this one (or two) for the Seleucid and Bactrian armies.
