"Or Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears"!! OK, not literally (unlike the Black Knight see Monty Python - the Black Knight - Tis but a scratch! see www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmInkxbvlCs ) Ok, Advice on which DBA games day or weekend (north of the Humber river if any) would be a good place to attend and start my DBA gaming participation ? If none then other ideas on easy to get to DBA games days (from my north Yorkshire hideaway)? I have access to a car although for long distance I have used coach, bus and trains as much as car. (I realise many venues are not easily accessible by public transport. Mind my wife would say our cosy hideaway is hard to leave by public transport!!) And any recommendations on what DBA army or tournament might be the easiest for a new start (no not up start, honest) or perhaps re - starter like me? I am thinking 2024 as not much of 2023 left ..... If you want to add personal notes on why you think X or Y event is more fun then feel free... from accessibility to accommodation availability (if requiring overnight stop) etc CarlL

Not all players participate in tournaments. Indeed, I would say that tournament players are a minor (if vocal) part of the DBA community.
Nonetheless, I enjoy tournaments, even though it is an artificial environment, where such things such as historical opponents, dismounting, rivers, and even Cities and Forts, are often discouraged. It all depends on whether you want to recreate history, or just have a good game.

Hello Karl
Any do at Bakewell is worth while, although as Stevie said a lot of playing goes on by individuals. Contact Bakewell, definitely worth while.

Bakewell tourney is a great place to start, free food available. I play out of Farm Road club in Sheff on a Thursday or Janco Toys most Saturdays granted both a few hours from you but if we knew you were coming we would gather some DBAers to do battle.

If you are willing to venture as far south as Newark, the Northern Cup at the Hammerhead show in early March would be my suggestion.
The organizers provide the armies and pre-set terrain. (I think they even provide dice and measuring sticks.) Players just have to register in advance and then turn up on the day.

...years ago I really enjoyed attending tournaments in different countries, but definitely not for free food, but to meet new players and learn new tactics...

Hi Carll
As far as I know the most northerly DBA tournament next year will be the Steel Warriors event in Sheffield on March 23rd.
If you check it out on the Tournaments tab there should be all the info there.
However some of the main reasons you may want to attend are: 1. The highest scoring player who has never played in a DBA competition before will be given a free DBA army, provided by our sponsors Irregular Miniatures. (If you register as wanting to attend, you'll be invited to be part of the vote for which armies Irregular provide as prizes.) 2. It's designed as a 'FUN' tournament, so you're encouraged to bring the worst DBA army possible, as you never play with it. 3. Some rounds are designed to give the people at the bottom a better chance against people at the top. 4. As myself and my brother are organising it there should be at least one of us around to quickly help answer any rule queries etc.
If you want to register interest just reply here. (Registering interest doesn't commit you as we'll be taking the money on the day, although obviously we'd like to be fairly certain of numbers near to the date to know how many tables to prepare etc.)
I'll be listing people who've expressed interest nearer the time.
If you have any other specific questions I'd be happy to answer them.
Cheers

Many thanks to you ALL for your contributions. CarlL People always happy to invite new DBA players yo the field of battle, it is only when you are riding high on your winning streak that the muttering will start. Fortnately I am still bad enough to give my opponent a good scrap without winning so am a highly valued opponent.
