Replying to Tony Aguilar, Face of Battle;
It is interesting that the MODERN variant; and several of the scenario books, and even the American Codex for Face of Battle are all available on wargamevault, but not the original ww2 rules!
NUTS and FINAL COMBAT look like unbelievably detailed ww2 skirmish games. I don't have the gray matter for it myself......

HOTT 1 game of DBN so far and now just need to paint my French 5mm army to fight my 5mm Russians SAGA Check your 6 HOTE Bloody Barons with 10mm WOR LWS Greek Naval Warfare by Ed Smith, great game which most of my friends love once they've played. Have played Bolt Action at a local club which was ok but I won't be going out and buying the rules and figures. Have played DBM, DBR, Tercio and WRG Renaissance in the past, but not now.
What I'd love to find was a good set of hex based rules for WWII convoy games with U Boats, but the hidden movement required is probably the main problem as the hex cloth I have isn't numbered.

I used to play spi’s Upscope solo back in the day - no doubt copies are silly money these days. Also U-boat by tabletop games was fun but not hex based.

Has anybody ever played Impetus? And can say something about it? Have played six or seven basic games with my chums. Think it is 350 points or so, we have Spanish, Parthians, EAP and EIR. All have won but the Spanish seem to be the runts as we often end up with little terrain. I am no expert but really like the rules and Def get the feel that LH Archer type armies have a good chance of winning. If the Romans catch my EAP I have to hope I have thinned em out beforehand. There are additional rules like strategies we have not played and I am sure others will have had more out of it but for me it played different enough to other system that I really like it. Only thing I don't like is you can hit an enemy at any angle when we all know they should be lined up front edge to front edge.

It has numbered hexs, which I think is the way it has to be.

In theory, I have everything I need to play Dragon Rampant, Alien Squad Leader, Lasalle, Fantasic Battles, Fantasy Rules!, Warband, Sword and Shield, Song of Blades and Heroes, etc. Even Kings of War.
In practice, I rarely play them. Not because I do not want to, but for lack of other players and due to time constraints.
The simplicity and the low to moderate encumbrance that DBA offers is just very helpful.
All this will not keep me from trying other rules and I still really, really want to find a set of fantasy rules that I really like. Unfortunately, Hordes of the Things does not work overly well for me and does not work at all for my regular wargames partner.

SAGA age of magic plays ok for big skirmish games. I am a WFB player by heart to be honest

SAGA age of magic plays ok for big skirmish games. I am a WFB player by heart to be honest[/quote] Skirmish is not really my cup of tea. I like formed units with facings and the like. That is also the reason that Dragon Rampant fails to really catch my interest. Tried Saga once, many moons ago. It was OK-ish and I would play again. Maybe it would grow on me. But what I really want is a rank-and-file game with multi-bases, without casualty removal, with a point system for building armies, and with a good balance of flavour vs. playability (Warhammer, with all the special rules, is a bit much. HotT feels a bit bland).
