This army appears as an option of the Ch'iang & Ti Chinese armies in book 3 but does not give much away about it in the description, nor in CJ Peers books either. I was wondering what figures would best fit for this army? Is this a Tribal army claiming Chinese legitimacy or an army that looks Chinese for this time period?
Plus does anyone know of any other sources of information on this army?

After doing a little research of my own I think I can represent the Chinese elements and the Tribal infantry with figures from the essex Northern & Southern Dynasties range and use the General from the Tang range as the Barbarian States of this time period did go to some lengths to appear legitimatley Chinese. The Lh can be chinese or hun figures depending on your own choice.
I was attracted to this army as it has a good Kn/Ax/Bd/Cb combination which is a fair all terrain army with plenty of choices. However, my interest was increased by its choice of allies., the Southern Hsiungnu and the Hsien-pi/T'u-yu-hun offer a larger Lh option or more Kn choices making it a tough little army in my opinion.

Did you indeed build this army as you were describing? Care to share any pics?

Hi Paul I'm actually waiting for my order to arrive from outpost miniatures.I already have the II/38 Southern Hsuing nu which is an ally and enemy of II/21c The Former Ch'in and the II/61b&c Murong Hsien pi and The Tu Yu Hun.I found that these armies too are mutual allies and enemies and the foot composition between the lists is very simular.
I plan to use a mix of Essex Tang and Northern/Southern Dynasty figure for the Generals TSU1, the Ch'in Kns (Ouposts STC10 for Cataphracts and Essex PCH1&1a for Chinese Cavalry, LH_PCH2, Ax_PCH4a, Bd_PCH4, Cb_PCH5 and Ps_PCH7.
The Outpost figures are Sui/Tang Cavalry STC10 (for cataphracts and the 6Cav chained cavalry).I contacted Outpost and they kindly supplied the Cav mostly on Cataphract horses (the plan is to modify the riders as the Murong had a destinctive feathered head-dress to their helmets). I'm using figures from the Turkomen range CAT1 Javelinman as the Ch'iang or Ti foot.
I initially used Essex Chinese spearmen PCH4a as the Chiang tribesmen but think they look too Chinese...Skythians could do or the Turkomen from Outpost...its down to your own personal taste.
Note Essex have just added new Cavalry and foot bowmen to the Northern & Southern range.
