I blame Simon! Presumably when the DBA Northern Cup was first set up it was so called because it was the most northerly DBA competition? Now Simon has come along and set up all these other competitions which are more northerly!! Although as none of Simon's competitions have a cup as a trophy, perhaps Paul can still keep the title? Except! the DBA Northern Cup isn't actually a cup it's more a tankard, so maybe a misrepresentation of goods legal suit is still on the cards??!! its origins go back to Sheffield and the now sadly defunct Triples Show, so genuinely ‘Northern’ at that point, although I defer to my earlier question about the Steel City’s place in the true North 😉 P

I think it depends on who you ask. I'd say Sheffield was north, but Baldie may disagree. Certainly anyone from Newcastle probably would.
So to settle this Paul maybe the competition should be renamed to:
"The DBA, not quite as northern as it originally was and certainly not now as northern as some other DBA competitions now being held, Tankard."
Do you want to suggest to Thomas that he gets that engraved on the trophy in time for the 5th March?? Of course he could shorten it to: TDNQANAIOWACNNANASODCNBHT

The fixture hasn't ben played in India for years - and I certainly wouldn't want to try and drink my tea out of the trophy - but England and Scotland still play each other for the Calcutta Cup. On that basis, I'm happy to stick with the old name.

I have proven on a map several times that Yorkshire is the furthest North you can get What happened to Northumbria on your map… ?! 😝 P Take A4 sheet of paper and draw on map of UK with Scotland at top Use line of Humber to head inland till you hit Yorkshire, it's pretty much in centre of UK mark that point with a red dot Now it looks like Newcastle is further North than Yorkshire However we know the earth is not flat Take hold of the map with left hand on West side of A4 and right hand on East side of A4 lif t the paper a foot or so above the table top Gently bring the hands together so map forms an arch with UK rising towards you, be careful the arch doesn't go down or that sort of ruins the plan You will now see Yorkshire at the top of the arch meaning it is at the top so must be as far north as you can get Now I realise you need to overlook a few scientific facts but in a pub drawn on a beer mat that has won me a number of discussions

Thank you Paul. Pity there is a dearth of DBA meetings / tournaments, "up north" (ie beyond the Humber!) Carl
