I will be there. I am coming down with the Scimitar contingent. Neil Mason See you there, Neil .... Just a thought, but it might be worth noting that not only do we bring an army, but also a FIXED number of terrain items which the 'lucky' user of our armies must attempt to use if defender......picking those is a challenge in itself !! Will we see eg Skythians with maximum bad going, or Early Saxons with a postage stamp terrain piece to hide in... Best day out ever, this one. Martin

Hi Any chance of you providing a spare table where we could run our own bring and buy, i.e. put stuff out with our name on, in case anyone was interested in buying? I think Pete did this at Mercian competition. Cheers Mark Table easily provided. Very happy to facilitate.

Who gets to choose the board size and if the defender, do you have to go with what's provided or could you stick to the normal 2' square one if you wanted?

The owner of the army specifies board size at the outset. Any player defending with that army has to use the board size specified (and supplied as apt.) in the same way as they have to use the terrain specified and supplied. Fun eh?

It is a fun competition, hard on the brain, but a good sharp learning curve. You might even get to use every troop type if you are lucky, fixed terrain is fun.
Good luck to all players.

Full results will follow tomorrow.
In the meantime thank you all for making this such a great event and for all your help and support, looking after me whilst I sorted rounds and cleaning up after.
I hope you have all had an easy journey home.
David Constable you are a star and a gentleman sir. Provider of prizes! I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Next time in the same situation; you play, no questions!

Delighted though I am to have received the Lego centurion trophy (which Diades uses as his portrait, above left), for the "most challenging army" prize, I would say that when I selected the Tuareg I envisaged them as a competitive outfit. Scott

Thanks, Martin/Diades, for an excellent day of gaming in what is always a highlight of the DBA calendar. It may not be everyone’s favourite format but The Scramble can be hugely enjoyable when taking a laid-back approach – after all what can you do with Mongols forced into a corner surrounded by bad going! Thanks to David for the prizes and congratulations to Martin S (champion) who completely out played me in the last game with his beautiful Spartans, who then promptly force marched to Staines for Sundays HotT tournament where they met some even scarier opponents. What a weekend!
Colin
Some great photos on Yahoo and yes, I’m also surprised that the Tuaregs did not do better – did you say, Scott, that they only won the terrain once? That may largely account for their poor showing.

Scott They worked ok for me Scott, though I suspect the two 6-1's I threw in succession, one of them against a Kn Gen, giving a quick kill and so 3 elements up had something to do with it!!

Thanks to Martin and Dave particularly and everyone else for making it a great competition, played in a great spirit with some interesting armies and so great fun.
It was nice to meet some new players I'd not come across before, as well as some 'old' adversaries.
Was also outplayed by Mr Smith, who with 6 wins out of 6 was in unstoppable form.

Not only that. When they did win terrain, their general failed to notice that they were supposed to use the larger board, so was unable to place one of the two Sahara sized dunes. Scott

Formal Results note army is the army that finished in that position, not necessarily the army brought by the player on the same line.
Position Points Player Trophy Army Points 1 18 Martin Smith Champion IV/12e Maori 16.396007 2 13 Mark Johnson Runner-Up II/45a Slave Revolt 13.412003 3 12 Neil Mason Third II/81a Dux Brit 13.403005 4 12 Richard Pulley Strongest Army II/39a Iberian 12.397003 5 11 Pete Duckworth III/52 Norman 9.5710088 6 9 Colin O'Shea IV/10 Mound Builder American 9.5090045 7 7 Pete Whyman I/52b Spartan 7.5890063 8 7 Kevin Casey II/17b Lysamachid 6.6460065 9 6 Scott Russell Most Challenging Army II/7 Late Achaemenid Persian 6.6100052 10 4 John Saunders I/1a Early Sumerian 6.5470047 11 3 Martin Myers IV/35 Mongol Conquest 4.640005 12 3 Mark Skelton Slayer III/70 Tuareg 4.5800046
All Books represented. Slave Revolts did very well!
As for the Tuaregs, they defended against me with Early Sumerian and, whilst they did forget the larger board, the terrain did its trick, I was just lucky that bows and dice trumped camels!
Let me know what other details anyone wants...
