Belated Birthday wishes Stevie, sorry I missed your big day but I don't read every thread... mine was on the 24th. Haardrada, I hope Stevie wished you Happy Birthday. Good point! ‘appy (belated) burf-day Haardrada. So, you just missed the Aquarius star sign. (Aquarius = the water-bearer...which might explain my addiction to wicked-strength cider... 🍺🤪 )

Good point! ‘appy (belated) burf-day Haardrada. So, you just missed the Aquarius star sign. (Aquarius = the water-bearer...which might explain my addiction to wicked-strength cider... 🍺🤪 ) I'm believed to be in the cusp between Aquarius and Pisces.... And show traits belonging to both signs (supposedly 😁). What I do find funny is that my Birthday is apparently the feast day of St Matthias... the Patron Saint of reformed alcoholics! This is quite apt as I used to drink like a fish and Lagers, Beers and Ciders of great strength. I was particular fond of "Snakebite" laced with Pernod & Blackcurrant....I received a good kicking one night and never felt a thing until the drink wore off the following morning. I had tripped over a low wall persuing one of the larger group that had picked on us and was seen lieing on the ground laughing at the lads hitting me.That's when I was a young scallywag... Now I don't touch a drop. Lol

I once had an interested discussion in a bar when I was refused a pint of Snakebite (cider and Guinness) because the barman said they weren't allowed to serve it anymore as it was too potent.
I was, however, allowed a half of cider and a half a Guinness but he wouldn't also supply an empty pint glass!
For a moment, I did consider buying the two halves, taking alternate swigs then shaking my head from side to side.

You're probably ahead of me here.

OK... I am out on this "snakebite" thing... Guinness Stout and Apple Cider? (or Pear? which I believe is the thing in the UK?) Is the cider back-sweetened?
also, too potent? Guinness is I think 4.5% Most ciders in the US are 2.5%-3.5%
Inquiring minds want to know.

BTW... I have done Pear cider... with no success... but I didn't use fresh pears... just juice.
On the other hand... One the guys here did make an excellent Pear Wine (11.5%) using fresh fruit... one of his neighbors has a tree or two. Though his fig wine also turned out great... so maybe he just knows what he is doing... (though his watermelon and his blueberry batches were awful...Don't ask me about my banana!)

I would use that to bathe in, not for drinking. (My wicked-strength ciders are at least 5%, minimum) A ‘Snakebite’ is one of those pub myths that is supposed to get you drunk quicker, but it doesn’t. Like ”drinking through a straw gets you drunk quicker”. Again, I’ve tried it, and it doesn’t (shame).
