I have just noticed that Valhalla 20 has been cancelled. A pity, but not surprising. Menacus S Understandable given C-19. Shame though!

Unfortunately the only thing that is going to be over by next week is several hundred peoples lives. I am certain it will be over by Christmas, I just do not know which year. David, are you staying safe and out of risky situations?

Hello Martin
As safe as I can. The unfortunate problem is that I am more likely to get it from somebody trying to help an OAP in the block - doctor, nurse, ambulance crew and other helpers, than I am from the public, even if I do not leave the building.

Hi all,
Somehow the email our committee did not come to me, but now I confirm that Valhalla 2020 has been cancelled. I would like to run a tournament anyway if things clear up - perhaps later in the year. I have painted an army for it so it would be a shame for it to be wasted!
In any case I am sure we will be back next year. We are not a big show and we don't make any profit from it, but we do it for the love of our hobby and will not give up easily.
Best,
Ivan

A painted army is never wasted. It's simply forward planning. (Got as far as buying mine, but have yet to paint it.)

Best, Ivan Ivan - happy to support in any way needed! Sounds like a really good idea to have a C-19 survivors tournament when this is all over. Hope we’ll all be there! Painted armies won’t be a problem with 12 weeks isolation - I’ve already done 4 armies this year and March isn’t out yet! Paddy

Thanks for your replies and support.
I'm sure I could arrange something in the post-virus world, as long as there's interest - about 10 players, plus some from the club would do. I will wait for this to calm down before organising though.
In the meantime, I will keep practicing. I have introduced my 6-year old to it, so at least I get to win some games :-)

Hello all
It might be worth thinking about 2021 events soon.
The recovery is probably not going to apply evenly throughout the country, so while Derbyshire might be OK, people from London and the Midlands might be discouraged from going.
A mistake I made was not doing a lot of paired armies, so if painting new ones it might be worth doing some to make matched pairs.

David Constable Our group (Farnborough War Games Society) is pretty firm in intention to hold Valhalla in 2021. The date will be set for the first Sunday following the Fathers' Day - June 27th (we have previously held the event on Fathers' Day, but decided to move it after discussing with traders and considering other similar events). I expect this to be fully confirmed around November time, at which time I will also know of my commitments - i.e. if I am able to run the DBA tournament as a part of Valhalla. All in all, I'd say there is a very high chance we will run this event as described above. I will confirm late this year. If I don't organise an event this year then the theme will be the same as was planned for this year. I hope that's enough for a bit of forward planning :-)

Unless an unpleasant variant occurs (remote but possible) June 2021 should be enough forward planning.
Hopefully some events will go ahead in November and December 2020, I think you will deserve a change of scenery. It would also let you learn how to lose with those new armies.

Was looking forwards to this event.
But another casualty in the battle v C19.
Something in the later Autumn would be great to looks forwards to - after the cricket season, if we even get one of those.
Take care all

Sorry but this battle of Cv.019 is not a battle, but a war. It is going to be won by EVERYBODY fighting their own individual battles, it is a PBI war.
It will be won by people staying at home and self isolating properly.
In my case it will most likely be lost by being in a lift, in the block I live in, within 5 mins of an ambulance crew who are coming in, or taking an OAP to hospital. That is all it is going to take to infect me if I am unlucky.

Hello, today is Thursday the 9th April.
From what I am seeing on TV, and out of my window, we are going to lose this war. In years to come you are going to be looking back at 2019 as "the good old days" when more than twelve people turned up to completions, and limits of sixteen had to be set.
I take this opportunity to send my regards to all of you who loose family members and friends this year and next year (2020/21). Expect the daily death toll to double or treble.
