Having just finished deflashing/desprueing some older Minifig Early German infantry, I once again reiterate my preference for the lead alloys.
I picked these up off ebay a few years ago and the previous owner had primed them without 'cleaning' them up.
Obviously they were cast from 'tired' moulds and had a fair bit of fairly thick flash along some of the interior mould lines.
A fair bit of carving with the point of an xacto to get the bulk of the flash - several hours to clean up 18 figures...
Would have been a fraction of the time with a lead alloy casting.
Of course, had the moulds have been in better shape the material used would have been far less important...

Yep; the softer alloys are better from a modelmaking perspective. Fortunately many companies still use them. The worst I've encountered is the alloy used by the 1/600 scale Picoarmor, which is both very hard and very brittle. :-(
