Actually Baldie, the “Ants” were supposed to be “Them!” from the 1954 film. (See www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4URRp39XOo ) My army consisted of:- 2 x Giant Controller Ants, with powerful telepathic mind control abilities (Magicians), 7 x Giant Soldier Ants (Beasts), 1 x Giant Flying Ant (Flyer), with a nuclear crater/hole-in-the-ground as a Stronghold. (By the way, if anyone is interested in a cheap ready painted ant army, have a look here:-www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=plastic+ants&crid=NXAHFHB6XAW5&sprefix=plastic+Ants%2Caps%2C305&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_12I used the cocktail stick variety, with the the following as worker ants in the Stronghold:-www.amazon.co.uk/Evinis-Plastic-Realistic-Halloween-Supplies/dp/B07CH2P8DD/ref=sr_1_4crid=NXAHFHB6XAW5&keywords=plastic+ants&qid=1573987504&sprefix=plastic+Ants%2Caps%2C305&sr=8-4 ) As for their performance...well...let’s just say it varied. I was late, so missed the first game (doh!), was winning the next game (4 AP lost to my opponent’s 8 AP) when we ran out of time, then I lost the next two games due to my usual phenomenal bad luck (in one game losing some 5 Soldier Ants in a single bound!). After rolling four ‘1’s’ in a row I chucked my wooden rounded dice in the bin and started using a sharp-edged black dice, and ended up winning the last two battles. All-in-all, a great day out with a great bunch of people...and we all got a prize, as Simon gave all the participants a “Wizards Tower” kit each, which was nice. Yes Joe, there is a tremendous amount of potential in all those plastic Halloween-April Fools creepy crawlies. Here are just a few:-
Giant spiders as protagonists for a “Dwarf” or “Elf” army... Giant scorpions for an Egyptian “Scorpion King” themed army... Giant insects for a “Land of the Giants” themed army... Giant cockroaches for a “After the Bomb” or “Damnation Alley” type army... Plus source for a “Primeval” themed army (based on the 2008 British Sci-Fi TV series about random time portals that transport creatures from the Jurassic, Carboniferous, late Cambrian, and even the far future, into the present)...

Thanks for an excellent day. Given the high turn out from Coventry, there was a high chance that one of us would win, I just happened to be the lucky one, throwing loads of sixes at the right time. My Old School themed army was the first one I ever took to a HOTT tournament “The Enemy Within” - 1980s opposition in the UK 1 Arthur Scargill Hero General @ 4AP 1 John Pilger/Paul Foot – Campaigning journalist Paladin @ 4AP 1 Flying Picket Flyers! @2ap 1 Unemployed workers “On their bikes” Riders @ 2AP 1 Crusties with dogs Beasts @ 2AP 2 Stone throwing anarchists /striking miners Warband @ 2AP 5 Strikers and demonstrators hordes @ 1AP (one of these features me and my partner on the infamous anti-poll tax demonstration (actually in 1990) that led to the fall of Thatcher 1 Ben Elton –Alternative comedian Lurkers @ 1AP Stronghold – Nelson's column (Trafalgar square)
