photos.app.goo.gl/XsY5DyhEGUSJRKJ98I 3d printed my first item, a war elephant. I got the plan from here: War Elephant 3d PrintIt came out well, if a little large. It's on a 40x40mm base for reference. It's quite tall too. We hit it with a heat gun to clean up some of the strings and to smooth it out some. I'm excited to see how well it paints up. Then I have to find a driver and some troops. It costs about $0.25 in materials. It's heavier than I expected, but much lighter than metal.

That is really amazing. The size seems perfectly good. Some elephants are bigger than others. The tusks might be a little too small, you could get some from an African figure maker to replace the little ones . Or maybe do another printing of just tusks. I will buy one for two dollars.

Awesome - and more economical than the resin case elephant I found in a junk store on a day tripe to Kiama NSW (Oz) They were either $0.50 or $1.00 and I am kicking myself that I didn't buy in bulk (I only bought 2 ) Cheers

Looks fantastic!
You could use some Milliput if you want to extend the tusks.
The 3D printing bug is stirring again...sigh...more overtime...

The guys who printed it for me are looking to push how nice they can get this to look, so there should be more iterations of this elephant. It's love to see what a resin printer could do with it, or with a smaller or more detailed mini.

Nice sculpt.
25 cents for material, but how much for the 3D printer???

Nice sculpt. 25 cents for material, but how much for the 3D printer??? That's the best part, the guys at work were eager to give it a shot. Our IT guys have the printers set up in the dept. The time was a bigger factor. Nearly two hours to print the single elephant. A better print may take considerably longer. I believe the model printer they used was like $250.

Two hours certainly to me does not seem bad at all, and to think it could look better with more time to print it,wow!
Compare that to how long it takes for any order of figs. to make it through the post to get to me, and the 3d printer wins hands down.

Seriously? Compare it to Museums new Indian elephant - this is rubbish.

Seriously? Compare it to Museums new Indian elephant - this is rubbish. The computer rendition looks good (though the soldiers look more they came from a modern gym and eat pounds of protein bars). But I haven't seen an actual model. Do you have a picture of one to see? Cheers Jim
