Some of the chaps at Janco Toys and the SR Wargamers have Dark Age forces for DBA/Lart etc.
I def wanted a force but really didn't fancy a Viking force.
Tonight someone brought a box of stuff they are putting on a table top sale incase anyone wanted first dibs, got a WW2 British fleet and a mahoosive unpainted Viking force.
Time to look at what kind of forces I can morph them into.

Scots Isles has all the fun of Vikings but with a mix of other foot types (a little bit of 3Bw/3Wb/3Pk/3Ax and even 5Hd) You get the Littoral capability and a choice of making half your army not solid Bd - all of it fast. I'm still not game to use them in an open tournament against Kn but then I'm just a coward Cheers

Had a quick look and seems like a fair number of different forces available for DBA and Lart. Best start on a DBA force first.

The queen God bless her, bought my ship 24 cases of rum in Tortola. Something like 90% alcohol if I recall. Flight deck BBQ ensued and a merry time was had, only time I ever had grog. Then won a raffle for one of the spare bottles which went home to a party with me, some spillage may have happened but I def dont recall as much of the evening disappeared.
As i am building a DBA force with an eye to upscaling to Lart I have started with a 4Bd force, expect their littoral landing wont be very speedy. Possibly due to the Viking version of Rum. I have them down as as liking a nice drop of Pimms.

Salutations !
IMHO, there are a goodly number of forces from 'The Dark Ages' which some or all of yon Vikings can morph into. And, of course, ye Vikings . aggressed everywhere from Newfoundland to Palestine. Also IMHO, the March from Grieg's _Sigurd Jorsalfar_ is among the best-ever background music for a DBA game.
OTOH, ye Wikipedia sayeth that the technique of distilling ardent spirits only reached Ireland after 1000, and before then winter-mead (freeze, remove ice from top) would have to fuel your berserkers ;-)

Stupid Vikings
Managed to get a Lart force based up, not painted. Late Romans slaughtered me, I may take up a career attacking isolated communities from now on these pitched battles are less fun.
Looking forward to getting slaughtered at DBA in the near future.
