A quick set of choices Alexandrian Macedonian - the first ancient army I really became interested in. Later Achaemenid Persian Ancient British Later Ottoman Turkish Early Crusaders
Not many matched pairs but the Ottomans do have troops that can be disguised as opponents for the Crusaders.

I always thought the biggest choice in WOTR was for a Yorkist to choose Edward, Richard or Warwick for your General. 😁 Nah, only Edward could claim to be a decent commander. Neville lost every pitched battle he commanded and Richard III is a non-entity. It's all about Oxford, Montagu and Stanley, so you can stand around doing nothing and claim to win.
