I pulled out the rule book for DBA 2.2 and read the campaign rules. Our group has played a number of these in past years. I just noticed that when your capital is taken, you become a tributary of the conqueror and remain in the game. The last time I recall that happening, I thought I had been removed from the game, very disappointing. It's called "read the rules, stupid".

To be fair - that is how the DBA v1 rules were written but that was one of only two major changes in the rules The other one was the rules for war declarations at the start of the year and the corresponding restrictions on who could or could not be attacked. In DBA 1 it was a no holds barred event Cheers
