This posted by the organiser on the Hott Yahoo group :-
"The Staines Massive will be held on Sunday 13th November. It will incorporate our 'leg' of the Good,Bad and Ugly international tournament. International fame for anyone doing well. Prizes will include best theme army and also best stronghold. Other awards etc may be given depending on when the money runs out...
This year we shall be using armies that are historical but with a mix of fantasy. At least half the AP must be historical types (think DBA troop types). At least 2 of the other elements must be fantasy types. Naturally historical types must be human since I don't think elven blades are historical.
I'm sure players will produce something that wasn't envisaged when the theme was codified :-)
As always please email me to confirm attendance as much in advance as possible so we can plan the day.
Tim Moore"

Got my army painted- not a 'super-army', by any means, but should be fun, regardless. As Tarrington Tourney falls the day before I took the opportunity to make a DBA army for one which morphs into its Hott variant next day...boy, will those figures be tired by Sunday night. (Historical it is, a winner it isn't ). It's an army I bought from California's Harry Dudrow a while back, which has been demanding paint for a couple of years, during which 'other stuff' kept getting in the way..... FINALLY I found the prompt to get it table-ready. Terrain pretty much up together, too, and the new DBA camp I made is legal sized as the Hott stronghold for day #2. Maaaaaarvelllous. M

Just to confirm that the HoTT Shooters troop type is allowable for historical Bw or Cb troop types.

Just to confirm that the HoTT Shooters troop type is allowable for historical Bw or Cb troop types. Thanks for the confirmation, Pete. I guess my rock-throwing peasants won't be considered as a 'valid historical element', as they're not Bw/Cb, but not to worry, as I have a further 12 points worth of definitely historical troops to keep within the theme. Looking forward to the day. Should be fun, as always. Martin

Hi, Is there anyone heading to Staines who would be able to give me a lift from Hatton Cross or Terminal 5?
Chris.

Great day of fun Hott action today. Many thanks to the Staines club for running an excellent competition. Armies were many and varied, with a strong turnout of sixteen players. I saw medieval Russians, ancient Greeks and Spartans, 1821 Greek War of Independence, Ancient Brits, Normans, Arthurian/SRB, Maori, modern armoured warfare Welsh, Romans, Gauls, Waterloo Prussians, and Chinese/Terracotta Army in use.
An album of pics is now in the Yahoo Hott group files- please add if you can.
Cheers, and thanks again.

Hi Martin, Just had a most enjoyable time looking through your pictures of the day, and as always some really inspiring armies there. The Prussian Napoleonic army is one of interest as I've wanted to do a Napoleonic HotT army for some time, so I'm always interested in how others have approached it.
I also saw there was a western army and that too is a favorite period of mine.
I really liked the Ares figure with the red eyes!!!
My congrats to all, and thanks to Tim Moore for handling the Staines Leg of the GBnU, and all the participants. I'm sure I'll be hearing from Tim shortly with details.
Later,
Terry
