In the act of teaching my young 7-yr old to game, we've been using DBA till now. We just made the switch to HotT, ... and he loves it! And I ask myself, why didn't I think of that sooner? It is, in many ways, the better game for youngsters. Many interesting element interactions, and flying things too! That said, he was getting the hang of DBA 3, and repeatedly smashed my Marian Romans with his Gauls.
I do note, Hordes need a fix. Horde heavy armies really suffer, since Hordes die so fast, and respawn so far away. Would be nice if they weren't -2 in BGo as well. I recall though having a real trouble with a 10Hd army. Nice to have the bodies, but man, they die fast against massed shooting. Bd just sweep them aside as well. They respawn too far back. Should they respawn in rear edge contact with an existing Hd, provided there is room? Would certainly better simulate endless charges, no? Or does switching to BW moves give them a big leg up?
Also, do you guys who play with BW moves leave shooting range at 2BW, or switch to 3BW?
The following army would be interesting to play, though:
1 x Aerial Hero(g) (Nazgul), 20 x Hd (Masses of crappy Orcs). That is one fell beast, and about 160 orcs. What a sight that'd be on a 30" board!

With the disclaimer that HOTT is, of course, fantasy, so you can whatever you like, I should still point out that the army you mentioned above pencils out to 26pts, not the standard 24pts. (AHG's cost 6pts.)

My original thought had 22Hd!
Forgot the Aerial Hero vs Flyer.
Still an interesting Army, no?

My original thought had 22Hd! Forgot the Aerial Hero vs Flyer. Still an interesting Army, no? Hello I have never played this combo. I have played 2 heroes, 1 paladin and 12 Hordes with some sucess, winning once a torunament with it. I fear that in your combo the flying hero would be too isolated. He may gain some success, but if he finds himself stuck in a combat, he will be overwhelmed. But nevertheless worth a try and in the true HOTT spirit. Yours sincerely Claude

They should have torched the prancing pony and sieved through the ashes for the ring.

Pretty much, hey?
I always thought Sauron was kindy sucky and maybe a tad effeminate. Seems to have an unbroken record of getting his @xx handed to him by the Free Peoples again and again ...
I think he also suffered from seriously unimaginative thinking, and a crushingly incompetent officer corps.

As dedicated HotT players we aren't supposed to judge!!! Otherwise who'd want to play the "forces of chaos"?... So I'll speak up for poor Sauron and his minions: he clearly is the underdog, and his Orcs no doubt suffer from the slings and barbs of racial stereotyping by the Free Peoples! Can we get some social justice here already?! And let's talk about living conditions and sanitation in Mordor! I mean it's bad enough that the poor Orcs and Goblins are systematically denied schooling in the Rohan education system, but it's hardly their fault they've been driven out of their lands and forced to live under a live volcano! Have you people ANY idea how awful it is having to do your ablutions into a running lava pit??? I mean let's see YOU guys work 110 hour weeks reporting to a bloody Ringwraith, and see how THAT pushes you into mindless mob violence at away fixtures... Full disclosure, as the proud owner of a Splintered Light 15mm orc/goblin army, I am clearly a Sauron sympathizer!!!

They should have torched the prancing pony and sieved through the ashes for the ring. That would certainly have spared us watching for three hours a bunch of geeks walking through a forest!

What a sight that'd be on a 30" board! One Areil Hero and a mass of pointless easy to kill Hoards....sounds like the Night King’s army at the Battle of Winterfell.
