Greetings,
I'm a HOTT and DBA 3.0 newbie. I have the rules but never used them. To be honest I paint more than I play rules...
I've always been interested in the conquest of the America's. Especially Cortez's campaigns.
Both DBA 3.0 and HoTT allow me to field both the Conquistadores AND Aztecs. Which would play best for the period? Are there advantages to using either?
Also would any of you have an idea about where I might find a suitable 1/72 compatible camp/temple for Aztecs and Conquistador forces? I'm not finding anything...

If you email me I can get you a copy of D3H2 it combines the HOTT and DBA 3.0 rules including all element types and brings the HOTT mechanics up to DBA 3.0 standards (so you can play both games using the same rules.)
Its a free supplement for anyone who has purchased DBA 3.0 and widely used in the community.

My son has Aztecs & Spanish Conquistadores (and their Tlaxcalan allies). He uses DBA 3.0 and the games are very enjoyable. In DBA many Aztecs can be represented by Ax or Horde. I strongly recommend using the horde option.

Why not just dive in and give both sets a go! Before committing to a basing scheme, you could always just temprarily fixthe figures to card bases.
One consideration might be availability of other players and what they are playing. Regards
Simon

Here's some DBA-3 Aztec eye-candy for you to enjoy as you choose which game-system to utilize. Figures are those of my friend, Eric Donaldson. Terrain and Camp are my own.

I have based my Conquistadors on 40/40 though to be able to use them in several systems. It is the only army I have that does not follow the strict DBX scaling. But since there is no competitive scene around here at all... I think i'll improvize. around it.

I think the only communities that may exist or have existed are around Ghent and Antwerp... maybe.

Way better than my paintjobs. I'm used to 28mm for 1/72 / 15mm I rely far more on the 'mass effect' to save the day visually.

I have irregular wars. one of the reasons i opted for square basing. It and all three Rampant systems are on my radar. I am a big fan of the Rampant rules but i have yet to try the Irregular Wars set. Read and waiting. Seemed promising. Also for things like Samurai warfare.
