Be interested to hear about the make-up of the 4 Bosporan armies and what options people ran with 😎 P I went with: Cav Gen 3 x 3Kn 2 x Sp 2 x Ps 2 x 3Bw 1 x LH 1 Art I think I was the only one who fielded Art. Was it worth it? Hmm not convinced. In the first game v Stevie it did kill a Wb that was dashing across to combat my Kn landing, so it contributed to the 4 elements killed before the Kn's could be overwhelmed. However apart from that not sure it did much except keep pushing a few units back now and then and breaking up lines etc, so contributing to pip drain for my opponents. There were a few El knocking about but I only played one army with them and Chris, most unsportingly, kept his El general well away from my Art! I think Colin went with Cv Gen, 4 Sp, 2 Kn, 2 Bw, 2 Ps, 1LH, from what I can remember. Phil S did use a Kn Gen, but fortunately my hopolites stood firm against him, (it was elsewhere he carved me up!)

Ancient Spanish DBA force Scythian's DBA force Then got a file box of Arabs generic enough to my eyes to do all kinds of DBA, Lart, HC and Impetus forces. Some could do with a bit of TLC but certainly good enough to go as is. So it's now no longer Ancient British, Bosporan or Spartan? Of course the more armies you have the harder it is to decide what to take you know! Plus there's the storage. Was chatting to a mate in the ADLG competition who is genuinely worried that his bedroom ceiling might be coming down due to the weight of lead stored in the attic! P.S. Intrigued by the solution to a Littoral Landing you and Stevie worked out. Willing to share?

There were half a dozen of my favourite armies on this list, any of which I would happily have fielded, but I was painting Bosporans when the army list was posted and knew I could just have them finished in time. I was surprised to have to play two other Bosporan armies and two Meroitic Kushites - where were the Ptolemaics, the Mithridatics...
My army composition is as listed by Sheffmark.
I would have liked to have played the sixth game Simon but recognise that it puts pressure on the management of the day. What do others think? Thanks to BHGS, Magister Militum and especially to Simon.

Bear in mind the advice given to my earnstwhile opponent by Stevie was only partially successful as I still managed to land and contact two aux with knight. Nothing new just using your figs to block off some of the landing area. I won game so we had another where I tried to impart what little knowledge of the game I have which as we all know really just means roll high and ask your opponent to roll low. You can do pretty well by blocking off a section of waterway and using other stands to protect those blocking the waters edge, it does mean you tie up a big chunk of your figs which to me is a big commitment. I nearly always go all out for a landing assault and it nearly always fails.

Not killer armies, but quite well balanced, and with the bonuses of Agg0 and Littoral. Had I not chickened out, I would have taken: Cv(G)+4xSp+1x3Kn+2x3Bw+1xArt+3x3Kn(Sarmatian Ally). The Bosporans, Meroitics and Nabateans appeared best on paper, and out of the three a Sp heavy Bosporans seemed to offer slightly more. You surely don't want to go with a Kn heavy Bosporan vs the Nabatean. Not much between the Meroitics and the Bosporans. Stevie's choice was an intersting gambit. With a bit of match up luck, he could have face more Meroitics and Nabateans. So not that daft in the context of that theme.

Arabs got their first games tonight. Bedouin vs NKE I even got to put some dunes down. Won 2 lost one when by boss got killed with first shot of game. Then Arab conquest took on NKE and won this time by killing enemy general with bow so good to get my own back.

Must admit I too would have preferred to play a sixth game, but understand Simon had said 5 games before the start and so some people had organised to leave at that time. However as we finished around 4.30pm I think we could have fitted another round in to finish around 5.30 and being from 'up north' I like value for money! Maybe 6 rounds next year?
