Four games of DBA vs Colin the Hittie O'Shea on Friday (plus two ECW clashes with a DBA variant from Pete Duckworth).
Early Lombards clashed with Early Slavs. Big fight around a village, with dismounted Lombard 'followers' (warband), aided by archers and a few heavy cavalry taking on Slavic tribesmen and mounted nobility . Tight game, going 4-3 to the Langobards.
Agesilaus travelled far across Anatolia and invaded Kappadokia. Faceoff between Hoplites on the plain and mountain men on the hills. Main scrap was by a steep hill on my left. Ionian cavalry heroically held out for eons against Ariarathid heavies and javelin Light horse. Paphlagonian foot (3Ax) sent in by Agesilaus initially did well but were then steamrollered, just as the Spartan leader was trampled by Ariarathes himself. 0-4 loss.
Then Carthaginians vs Polybians. Two games, the first of which saw large tracts of plough land turn squishy after heavy rains. Suddenly a whole HEAP of the board was slow going for my Roman heavy foot. Game changer. Balearic slingers saw off the velites in this game, just as the Roman commander was flattened by elephants...major Roman defeat.
Principes pushed too far forward for comfort (Cannae style) against Spanish 4Ax in game two and were flanked and crushed by African/Libyan spearmen while a few of their colleagues were successful in a flanking wood against the velites. 0-4 , I think (though I remember nobbling a nellie in one of the two games)? Hannibal Ad Portas 😳. Much fun all round

And what about the ECW? Always harboured fantasies of ecw a la dba ... Yours, D-‘I will return’-TM

Hi DTM.... haven’t heard from you fer ages!
The ECW variant (‘Tres Regna’) is a clever twist on DBA, worked on by Pete D.. He has stripped away the inapplicable DBA elements, and then adjusted factors and results for the remainder , and also added a couple of new types (Dragoons and Light artillery/Art (f) ). Gets believable results, and is easy to play, as there isn’t too much difference from ‘normal’ DBA. Also, there are new rules for generals, from ‘Timurilank’ on this forum.
I’ve forgotten the details of the games we ran through, but IIRC the Horse played a significant role, and I fluked a couple of dodgy 6-1’s . Made a fun change from ancient and medieval, and gave me an excuse to brush off and rebase my old collection of figures.

Are Pete D's rules for ECW/TYW available for download or sale?
Cheers,

Thanks, Martin. I know this probably isn't the site for this but I wonder if anyone has views about the best 25mm ECW figures out there?

I too would be interested in the ECW/TYW rules, since our group has a mess of pike and shot mounted on DBX bases.
