If like me you are a fan of all things War of the Worlds (from H.G. Wells himself to Jeff Wayne’s musical version), you’ll be please to note that the BBC is currently filming a new version...actually set in the correct late Victorian period of 1898 or thereabouts for a change. Have a look:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI5V7JSWfPc...I find the music suitably haunting. (And for all you HOTT players, this gives me an opportunity to plug some Army Lists I made for this conflict, which can be found in the appendix at the end of this document:- fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/File:DETAILED_CRIB_SHEETS_for_HOTT_2.1.pdf )

Sounds great - its been a trend to move the action to WWI era. (Just saw Peter Jackson WWI film - They Won't Grow Old - fantastic bit of tech wizardry).

I was lucky enough to see the musical in London a few (three?) years ago, by Jeff Wayne, who was even conducting! Having had the four LP set since I was a kid, that play blew me away!

I’ve seen Jeff Wayne’s live stage show twice now...both times with the original Richard Burton with his shirt on hologram projection.
Anything to distract me from Tom Cruise’ s dis-functional family (who cares...show me the Martians!).

They had, I can't remember his name, plays lots of action films, doing the narration. On thing that I though was cool, was that they had the original voice actor of the soldier, now playing the part of the priest. And to see one of the tripod Martians walk on stage, with "UUllaah!" ringing in my ears, wow! I had no idea that this was an ongoing musical, just thought I was lucky to be in London at the time.

ANOUNCEMENT!
The first episode of the brand new “War of the Worlds” mini-series, set in England in 1910, is on BBC-1 at 9 o’clock tonight!
“...and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us...”

I have just seen that as I browsed the Sunday paper. I thought of you and I hope the producers have more luck glueing tripods' legs on than you did!!

Just to fill in what Simon said...I used the wrong type of glue, and after leaving them to set overnight in the morning I found they had all sagged and set in crazy drunk positions. The looked like the end of H.G.Wells’ novel, after they had all been wiped-out by bacteria! (Lesson for Stevie...use a glue that sets quickly...even if it’s no good for sniffing!)

Heard a review of this classic (first serialised in 1897) on Radio 4's Front Row with the writer who said he set in in the Edwardian era (1901-1910) as Wells said he was writing about the near future & it presages WW1 re: the technology & military build up of the early C20th & that he found the Victorian age to be a bit "stuffy". Whatever, I look forward to the production. There was also a recent Radio 4 documentary about Orson Welles' 1938 radio broadcast which caused panic (or did it?) in the U.S. when broadcast as a mock-newscast Regards, j
