Trouble is that customs men have zero sense of humour. Travelling back from Australia many years ago, having stayed in a hotel yards away from one of the best Wargames shops I have ever visited and where I bought several packs of Flames of Wat PzGrens, I was asked “Did you pack any firearms in your luggage?”
Apparently “Depends how small you mean?” was not the correct answer and won me a 45 minute luggage search by a Dementor on loan from Askaban.

I assume that all this VAT concern is over mail order only and won’t impact Salute etc. Is that correct? Salute happens during Fighting 15s' expected Brexit closure period (15 March to 15 April). Fighting 15s will close to absolutely all orders during that time because it cannot break EU laws against geo-blocking that came into effect in December 2018 (hence the "open to all" or "closed to all" to avoid discriminating between customers in different EU countries). Assuming the UK leaves the EU and is not bound by that geo-blocking law, once that happens Fighting 15s can legally reopen to only UK customers. When it becomes clear how orders to the EU and the rest of the world are affected by tariffs and taxes, Fighting 15s will gradually reopen to those customers too as soon as the online shop can be updated to reflect international trading requirements. I have no intention of cutting off EU customers because I've spent a long time cultivating them, enjoy dealing with them very much, and they account for a huge chunk of Fighting 15s' turnover. I will be at Salute on the Colonel Bill's stand, and will accept orders by phone/email for Salute to be collected from Colonel Bill's up to and including 14 March. If Brexit is postponed or cancelled, Fighting 15s will still close for part of that period because I have decided to make the best of a bad job and take some holiday.

Joke not with customs or security staff because they have rubber gloves, Vaseline and no sense of humour. :-)

Will there be a limited allowance, like for cigarettes? "Sir, you carry five DBA armies with you; as you know, the limit for personal use is a historically matched pair. I'm afraid I'm going to impose a fine for failing to declare them."
Best quote ever - you win Fanaticus this week Vic
Cheers

I placed an order with TimeCast Miniatures today and recieved a confirmation of despatech several hours later. Fantastic service.
Figures arrived this afternoon from TimeCast. Time to play the motivational music in background while I work on the new army.

Now a Heads Up A second order was placed today for Black Hat miniatures which are now carried by Fighting 15s. I am aware that these are cast to order but thought it wise to read the delivery, terms and conditions sections.
As the Brexit date nears, the online shop will close from 15 March 2019 to 15 April 2019 “to account for the likely change in cross-border tax law that will cause complications with international orders.”
Any plans to expand your armies you may want to hasten them along.
The problem arises because Fighting 15s is registered for VAT. This raises the possibility that an EU customer could order from Fighting 15s before Brexit (B-day) and pay VAT on their order, but that order might not be dispatched until after B-day. If the tax regime changes on B-day because of a no-deal Brexit or because the U.K. goes outside the customs union, then that order may well have tax charged on it again on import, and the customer will be charged tax twice. From my understanding of EU trading laws, I can’t shut the shop to only Continental EU customers before B-day: I have to remain open to all customers (UK and EU) or shut to all. The issue does not arise for non-VAT registered businesses, so lots of small U.K. toy soldier businesses will not be affected. For them it is simpler: before B-day their orders to the EU have no tax: after B-day their orders get taxed on import at typically 20%+ plus a handling charge for the customer. So in the event of the U.K. dropping out of the customs union their figures simply will be more expensive. it is already clear to me that a lot of customers are thinking in advance and ordering now. The planned closure period is to allow me to get affected orders out the door before the tax situation changes. However, as this month has already shown, I can get too many orders to process, the only solution to which is a short, temporary closure to get back on top. My teutons arrived a couple of days ago, ordered them a week after christmas so good job getting them out so quick! lovely figures
