After years of limited options for 15mm Sumerian figures, I am suddenly spoiled for choice with the appearance of both the Eureka and Museum ranges. The problem is that there is only one 'old' Sumerian list: I/1. Neither range includes proper Akkadians, and as far as I can tell no Lullubi or Guttians. Which means they are either incomplete or don't work for I/11(a) or I/7. Since I don't want to pick, I'm trying to find a way to use both.
I think the Museum figures could be used for I/11(b). The list makes a transition period form old Sumerian tactics to those introduced by the Amorites. The Museum figures hold their shields like well, shields rather than pavises or sparabara as older Sumerian armies likely would have. Since the big difference between I/1 and I/11(b) is the introduction of the Amorite shield the poses could work. The problem is the lack of shields.
The Amorite shield was a medium-sized rectangular job. All four corners were raised and some people have interpreted it as the hide some four-legged beasty stretched on a wood frame, each leg forming one of the four 'points' on the shield. However, this is 15mm, so I'll settle for a boss-less, rim-less rectangle. Thing is, I can't find any. Essex has Amorites with shields, but don't list the shields for separate sale.
So, I ask: does anyone have any suggestions for a source of such shields. Or any other clever suggestions?
P.S.: Yes, I am aware that the fleece kilt and studded cloak worn by these figures were likely no longer in fashion by this point, but I am willing to overlook that since it is hard to say with any certain if these items were never used.
