I know I did some research in the late 1970s on Han. Now at that time things were very sparse so this needs checking carefully. Bows, crossbows and spears were painted red, the clothes were mostly green, with I think some blue? I seem to remember red chariot wheels.
Chris Peers did an Osprey that should somewhere cover your period (four volumes).

David Constable Hi I have an Osprey hybrid book called Soldiers of the Dragon which includes most the books on Chinese armies by C J Peers and there is no hint of colours used for the Warring States period.I do know Quin used black and used light blue for their Imperial guard at some time, Han were red and another used grey but I'm not sure which....the others I do not know. The topic was well discussed on the old site, but sadly all that information has gone now.I do know there have been a few Warring States campaigns done in the not so distant past that could jog someones memory. This info could be useful for others wishing to build Warring States armies in future.

Do you think it's worth picking up Peers' "Soldiers of the Dragon" if one already has the individual, Osprey books on Chinese armies? Sounds as if it might be just a compilation of those separate titles.

I have both Soldiers of the Dragon and all four books - I was misled by the Doubleday Military and History Bookclub in that they didn't indicate that it was published by Osprey and a compilation of 4 books I already had.
Soldiers of the Dragon has a few additional photographs that are not in the books, but it misses out on some of the illustrations. I think the four individual books are probably a better deal.
As for the Warring States period - the first book 'Ancient Chinese Armies' has at least one illustration from that period, plus pics of the Qin.
Cheers
