Stevie,
What would you do if you had total control?
Dear Lord no
Ha! Iâd have every time a battle is won, the loser must buy the victor a pint.
(At least that would keep me sober...ha, ha, ha! )And I already
DO have complete control...at least at home, between two
consenting adults, with the curtains drawn, so that the DBA thought police
canât see what weâre up to and burn us as heretics....
Iâd certainly start with everything in the âLessons from Historyâ booklet,
which can be found here:
fanaticus-dba.fandom.com/wiki/File:LESSONS_FROM_HISTORY.pdf .To that Iâd add âLH only pays ½ a PIP to moveâ, and have âinstant turning-to-faceâ.
And in addition Iâd âreduce the heavy foot combat factorsâ, as described here:-
fanaticus.boards.net/post/25978/ , so the new â+1 to 4Ax/Solid Bow Tactical Factorâ
were no longer necessary.
But Iâm going to introduce you to some of
Stevieâs Secret Experimentation Projects.
None of these are quite ready yet...Iâm just âpushing-the-boundariesâ, âthinking-outside-
of-the-boxâ, âindulging-In-blue-sky-thinkingâ, and seeing what is theoretically possible.
Get Rid Of DoublingIâve looked into the DBA combat system and concluded that doubling is not best. Instead,
âif your final combat score is 4 more than than your opponent then he is destroyedâ.
This also helps to make Bd-on-Bd or Pk-on-Pk encounters a little bit more decisive.
A New Combat OutcomeAlong with the above, we can now introduce a brand new combat outcome.
Iâve always thought that there should be something in between âRecoilâ and âDestroyedâ.
And that should be âFleeingâ, representing units they were broken, ran back, and rallied.
This would be in addition to the already existing fleeing combat outcomes listed on page 11.
It would simulate the Roman reserve relief system better if the Hastati sometimes fled back
through the Principes. No reserves?...then theyâll be a full move away facing the wrong direction
(so no Threat Zone to impede the enemy from hard-flanking their left behind mates).
To make this work everyone should be allowed to flee through friends facing the same direction.
And how do we generate this âFlee moveâ?...simple, ditch the doubling result:-
ăăâIf your final score is +4, then the enemy is no moreâ (i.e. they are routed and lost).
ăăâIf your final score is +3, then the enemy will fleeâ (an addition to the already fleeing outcomes).
Any other score (i.e. +1 or +2) causes the enemy to recoil as normal.
ColumnsOf course, it would look silly if an entire Pk column had to flee, but Iâve thought of that.
âColumns do not flee because of combat difference, they just recoil insteadâ.
Now thereâs a very good reason for being in a column...it doesnât make you fight better (unless your
Pk or LH), but being in a column makes you more dependable and resilient (which is good for Wbâs).
---------------------------
Aaaannnnyyyy waaaayyyy...all this is purely for my own use, so I wonât be publishing any of this.
Far too radical.
With all the above added, it could no longer be called âDBAâ, it would become âDBSâ (De Bellis Stevie).
