I had a work colleague of mine come over last evening, for his first ever DBA game.
I wish I had the foresight to take some pics., as I found the way he placed the terrain was quite interesting... basically a nice funnel in the middle caused by difficult hills and a wood, resulting in terrain in all four quadrants. I had the choice of selecting quadrants for all but one of the terrain features, as he rolled quite a few 6's, and he placed them all close to the middle.
I'll tell you one thing, that was one long game, as I only have less than ten games under my belt, and as this was his first, so we were looking up rules and diagrams often. Looking at the diagrams today, I noticed we made a few mistakes, so the next time we play, I am going to suggest we go over the diagrams one-by-one. I lent him my book by Sue, so he does not have access to the diagrams.
It started off well for me (I was the Albanians), as I managed to secure two difficult hills with my psiloi and crossbowmen, and managed to lock up a few of his elements in the threat zones of my elements on the hills.
He plopped his horde in the center of that funnel, which caused me a ton of agro. especially in that the funnel was just a little less than 2BW wide.
In the end, it ended up with four of my elements eliminated and my camp sacked by his light horse, to three of his elements leaving the board.
That being said, we had a great time, and hope to meet up again next weekend.

nangwaya, Do not worry about making mistakes, even veteran players (and I include myself) make them. This may help for next time.
Choosing and Placing Terrain, page 6, paragraph 2. “A score of 5 directs that the square is chosen by the defender. A score of 6 directs that the square be chosen by the invader.”
In all instances the defender places the terrain.

Thanks. I should have specified, that Steven (the Serbian Empire), was the defender, so at least we got that part of the rules right when doing the terrain
