Hi just fishing for ideas here...but what colour shades would you recommend to paint middle-eastern buildings of the ancient-medieval period?

Def go off white or use watered down ink to mucky them up. I made some desert buildings in 28mm for Bolt Action and did them so white they look like Greek holiday lets. Still need to get round to dirtying them down.

Still need to get round to dirtying them down. Funny, but I did the opposite. Structures were painted earth colour and dry-brushed white or cream. The last application was uneven to give the impression of wear.

I don't know if either of these would be of use to you, but I have used both on my buildings to give texture: Textured paintModeling pasteI can no longer find the textured paint, and the company will not ship to Canada (where I live), and ended up finding the modeling paste to be a great substitute. The thing I like about it, is I can mix whatever paint I want with it, and have been using it for desert terrain as well.

...some players have used textured material, where all they have had to do is paint on foliage growing up the side... See the thread on the Tarrington Tourney 2017!

For the texture I use Woodland Scenics plaster bandage which you can get from model railways shops for creating terrain. I make the buildings out of cork and wrap them in plaster bandage an, to get to your question, tend to start with a base coat of yellow ochre then a coat of Vallejo Dark Sand and highlight with Vallejo Iraqi Sand. I also prefer the build up form earth colour - after all, they are adobe. Can't track down a close up picture right now but you can see them in action (not DBA) here: senlachill.blogspot.com.au/2016/07/a-tough-day-at-el-mughar.htmlEdit: Here's a better shot - hope the link works I haven't worked out adding images form Flickr yet flic.kr/p/BGe1Ha
