As today I am snowed in I started a fictional campaign set during the ECW in the fictional county of Chillingshire, My ideas for the campaign and a map of Chillingshire can be found on my web page www.spanglefish.com/solitarywargamer
The action so far
Day 1
Sir Richard Gascoyne went to Deer Park Hall and persuaded Sir Thomas Sharpe to join him
so he now has 1 x P&S unit 2xGalloper units and a Minion Gun
Nathaniel West visited Bartholomew Bassett at Danemoor and he joined Parliament.
1 x P&S unit 1 x Trotter unit and 1 x Unit of Dragoons
Day 2
Nathaniel West immediately set out for Chillingford to recruit the trained bands and secure the Saker gun
Sir Richard Gascoyne after a debate with Sir Thomas Sharpe like wise marched on Chillingford and met the Parliament forces about a mile from the town.
Early afternoon saw battle joined amongst the fields and enclosures west of Chillingford
The Royalists despatched their horse to the right flank to counter the Roundhead Dragoons who were starting to line the stone walls of the fields
Parliament sent their horse directly towards Sharpes Minion gun. In the centre both sides advanced their Infantry.
Sir Richard then sent one unit of Cavaliers to engage the Roundhead Dragoons lining the stone walls
Using the shelter of the walls the dragoons fought well but were eventually forced from the enclosures but still inflicted casualties to the Royalist horse
The second group of Royalist horse charged into Nathaniel West's infantry forcing them into a pike stand
Meanwhile the Roundhead trotters captured the minion gun and then turned their attention to their beleaguered infantry. Being badly mauled Sir Richard tried to rally the horse facing the infantry but was wounded and carried from the field in face of the oncoming Trotters they retired.
Meanwhile Bartholomew Basset was wounded rallying the hard fighting dragoons.
The Royalist Infantry then charged the reformed Parliament foot, after a struggle the Royalist infantry broke and fled, the Roundhead horse then hit into the resting Cavaliers putting them to route. Being now pressed by the roundhead dragoons and threatened by the roundhead horse the remaining Royalists fled the field. Leaving Nathaniel West to march into Chillingford.
Day 3
Nathaniel West was able to recruit to fill his small loses incurred during the previous days battle. He also took charge of Capt Pratt's Trained bands and the Saker gun. Bartholomew Bassett had his wound attended to.
Sir Richard Gascoyne meanwhile withdrew to Norton and recovered from his wound intending next to head for towards Slate House in an attempt to persuade Col James Steele to join the kings cause. He had little luck recruiting and is only left with a Regiment of Horse
Updates to come.
No photos as I am conserving space but I will be posting some on my web page.
